Furman transfer, Dallas native Brooklyn King signs with Tarleton State Women’s Basketball

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Women's Basketball added a Division I transfer to its 2026-27 roster, with former Furman guard Brooklyn King becoming a Texan.

King, a Dallas native, played in 22 games and started in five contests for Furman as a freshman last season. The 6-foot guard scored 85 points (3.9 points per game) and grabbed 83 rebounds (3.8 rebounds per game) to go with 29 steals, 15 blocks and 10 assists in 2025-26.

"We are happy for BK's return to the Lone Star State after spending her freshman year at Furman University," head coach Bill Brock said. "She is a skilled athlete that played on an outstanding high school team at Cedar Hill coached by Nicole Collins. BK's versatility allows her to play inside-outside offensively and to defend multiple positions defensively. We're excited to add BK to the Texan Family, and can't wait for her to arrive on campus this summer."

After making her collegiate debut on Nov. 3, 2025, King opened the 2026 calendar year with 10 points, seven rebounds and seven steals in a win against Bob Jones on Jan. 3. She followed suit two weeks later with another 10-point, seven-rebound performance against Western Carolina. King was inserted into the starting lineup during the Paladins' last four games, starting every game for Furman during the SoCon tournament.

A product of Cedar Hill High School in Cedar Hill, Texas, King was a four-year varsity player. King was instrumental in helping Cedar Hill get back to the state tournament for the first time in 15 years. She was an All-Area and TGCA All-State First Team selection, being a two-time First Team All-District player in the process.

Averaging 15.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.3 blocks, King was ranked No. 18 among high school players in Texas. She capped off her high school career by playing in the 2025 UIL All-Star game and played two years for Drive Nation Basketball in Irving, Texas.

King comes from a family of athletes. Her uncle, Keith Washington, played nine seasons in the National Football League. Washington was a defensive end for the Baltimore Ravens that won Super Bowl XXXV.

Tarleton State has picked up over 1,000 wins as a senior college, with the Texans obtaining the program's 1,000th win on Jan. 31 earlier this year. The Texans made their second straight WAC Semifinal after an upset win over Utah Valley. Tarleton State returns four letterwinners from the previous season, including starting guard Caroline Lyles

King is the Texans' third signee from the transfer portal for the 2026-27 season, joining guard Stephany Gonçalves (Eastern Arizona) and center Lesline Penge (Cochise College). They join Tarleton State's four returning letterwinners as well as high school signees Kendall Ford and Alayna Yates.
