STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton Texan baseball team will host Southwestern Oklahoma in a four-game, Lone Star Conference series set this Friday and Saturday, April 9-10, for Military Appreciation weekend at Cecil Ballow Baseball Field in Stephenville.
Many other special events will take place at the ballpark this weekend alongside the special commemoration to the Tarleton Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) as well as former military personnel in attendance.
The Texan players will be signing autographs following Friday's doubleheader and all kids wearing Stephenville Parks and Recreation Department (SPARD) league jerseys on Friday and/or Saturday will receive free ice cream coupons as well as a raffle ticket for drawings of various Tarleton baseball memorabilia.
The Texan Club will be sponsoring a hot dog and t-shirt give away on Saturday as well. Hot dogs will begin being served at noon behind home plate and all persons in attendance will receive a free Tarleton Baseball t-shirt, while supplies last.
The Texans enter the weekend 19-20 overall following a 10-8 win over St. Mary's in Stephenville on Wednesday. Tarleton is currently in seventh-place in the LSC with a 15-17 record following its 3-1 series win over Central Oklahoma at Broncho Field in Edmond, Okla., this past weekend.
The Bulldogs head into the weekend following a split with Eastern New Mexico in Portales, N.M., last weekend. SWOSU is 19-20 overall and currently in the eighth position in the LSC standings behind the Texans with a 13-16 record in conference play.
The Texans bring in a current four-game winning streak over the Bulldogs from last season that includes a 7-3 win in the second round of the LSC Championships in Abilene last season. Tarleton won the season-series 3-1, dropping just the first game of the series to SWOSU in Weatherford, Okla.
Doubleheaders are set for both Friday and Saturday at Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex. Game one of Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 3 p.m. first pitch. Saturday's first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
Erath county resident and former World War II veteran, Brad Thompson, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch on Saturday.
