STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Senior catcher Sergio Guerra has been named to the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award Midseason Watch List, recognizing the top catchers in college baseball for their performance behind the plate and contributions at the plate during the 2026 season.
The senior backstop turned in one of the most dominant offensive performances of the year in the season-opening series against Le Moyne on Feb. 13, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two home runs and eight RBI while scoring four runs. He followed that performance with another multi-hit outing on Feb. 15, adding a double and a home run to drive in five more runs.
Through the first half of the season, Guerra has recorded multiple multi-hit games and has consistently produced in intense situations, including a home run and three RBI in a win over Air Force on March 28. His ability to deliver extra-base hits and drive in runs has made him a key contributor in the middle of the Texans' lineup.
Behind the plate, Guerra has been equally impressive, compiling a perfect fielding percentage across the season with numerous games recording double-digit total chances. He posted 15 total chances against Creighton on March 1 and followed with 13 chances against Texas and Air Force.
The Buster Posey Award, presented annually to the nation's top collegiate catcher, highlights players who excel in all aspects of the position, including defense, game management, and offensive production.
