TexAnns remain undefeated with 3-2 win over SBU

STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton TexAnn volleyball team remained undefeated and escaped the 2010 TexAnn Invitational as the only undefeated team in the event with a 3-2 win over Southwest Baptist in Stephenville.

The TexAnns (8-0) are off to the program's best start in history, and the purple and white claimed the see-saw match in comeback style.  Tarleton trailed 10-7 in the fifth and decisive game before outscoring the Bearcats 8-2 to claim the 15-12 game.  The TexAnns lost game one (25-20) before claiming game two (25-22).  SBU won game three (26-24) before dropping the fourth game (25-21).

Tarleton was led by Rachel Wolf with 16 kills while Irelis Ilarraza (13) and Stacie Murrah (12) each had double-digit kills.  Tarleton had a .242 hitting percentage as a team.

Jessie Hartman had 29 assists while Danielle Barker added 22 for the TexAnns.  Hartman had three service aces to top the squad.  Shea McBrearty had 17 digs to lead the team while Margaret Luedecke and Wolf has 12 apiece. 

The TexAnns had 10.0 total blocks in the victory to SBU's 11.

Ashley Jurgensmeyer had 20 kills to lead the visitors while Kylie Heim (12), Britni Reed (10) and Joanna Granzow (10) each had double-digit kills. 

Brianna Wallace had 49 assists to lead the team while five different players had double-digit digs.

Tarleton will return to action at Texas College on Tuesday, Sept. 14 in Tyler.
