TexAnns look to end skid against St. Edward's

AUSTIN - The Tarleton TexAnn volleyball team looks to rebound from two straight losses that spoiled their perfect 9-0 record as the TexAnns face-off against St. Edwards Monday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. in Austin.

After starting the season undefeated through non-conference play, Tarleton lost their first two Lone Star Conference matches on the road at Angelo State and Abilene Christian, by scores of 3-0.

In both losses, the TexAnns hit an uncharacteristic .034 percentage, compared to their .203 total on the season.

Rachel Wolf leads Tarleton this season with 135 kills, averaging 3.46 kills per game, while Flynn Harrell, Irelis Ilarraza, and Stacie Murrah all have over 70 kills this year.

Jessie Hartman anchors the TexAnns with 265 assists on the year, averaging 6.46 per game.

Catherine Cutbirth has contributed 36 blocks for Tarleton, including four solo blocks, while Monica Hemel has five solo blocks to go along with 15 assisted blocks.

Shea McBrearty, Tarleton's all-time career leader in digs, continues to add to her total with 156 digs so far this season, averaging 3.80 per game. She also leads the team with 18 service aces.

The TexAnns face a dangerous St. Edwards team, who is 6-3 on the season and coming off a pair of dominating performances against Panhandle State and Texas-Permian Basin, both 3-0 sweeps.

The Hilltoppers are led by Whitney Rhoden, who has 86 kills on the season, and Chelsea Barsamian, who is averaging 9.62 assists per game. The TexAnns face a tough line-up that is hitting a .226 attack percentage on the season, while holding their opponents to just .152.

Ale'tra Ware and Pam Osborn front a stifling defense with 23 and 21 blocks respectively, while Michelle Hundt has collected 155 digs on the year, averaging five digs per game.

The last time Tarleton and St. Edwards faced off, the TexAnns dropped a 3-1 match to the Hilltoppers in Austin on Oct. 30, 2006. Tarleton's all-time record against St. Edwards is 2-12.

The TexAnns return home Thursday, Sept. 23, when they will host the Lady Tigers of East Central at 7 p.m.
