AUSTIN – The Tarleton TexAnn volleyball squad narrowly defeated the host Hilltoppers in Austin on Monday, 3-2.
The two teams went back and forth, trading games 25-27, 25-19, 26-24, 22-25, before the visiting TexAnns won with a score of 15-11 in the final game.
Tarleton hit percentages of .278, .250, and .414 in their wins, while hitting just .021 and .079 in the two games it lost.
Irelis Ilarraza contributed 13 kills, while
Flynn Harrell added 12 and
Rachel Wolf added 10.
Senior libero
Shea McBrearty led the TexAnns with 22 digs, while the team collected seven blocks on defense.
Jessie Hartman recorded 29 assists, with
Danielle Barker adding 18 more for Tarleton.
The Hilltoppers won the first game, before dropping the next two to the TexAnns, putting themselves in a hole. St. Edward's fought back with a 25-22 win in game four, but dropped the final game, despite hitting a .308 percentage.
St. Edward's recorded seven blocks of their own, while recording just a .161 hitting percentage.
Mary McNamara led the Hilltoppers with 27 assists, while Lindy Luleff, Ale'tra Ware, Whitney Rhoden, and Meredith Bard all had 10 or more kills.
Michelle Hundt anchored St. Edward's defense with 20 digs, while Stacie Robertson contributed 18 digs and Ashley Vander Hey provided the Hilltoppers with 12 more.
The TexAnns improve to 10-2 on the year, and return to Stephenville to face East Central Thursday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m.
