STEPHENVILLE – The TexAnn volleyball squad evened their Lone Star Conference record at 2-2 with a 3-0 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma. With game scores of 25-21, 26-24, 25-18, Tarleton squeaked by with a closer match up then the scores showed.
The TexAnns had big rallies after trailing in both the second and third games. In the second game, Tarleton trailed 24-22, before scoring six straight points to end the game. The Storm took momentum back in the third game, but the TexAnns answered after tying it up at 16 apiece when
Catherine Cutbirth served up six straight points, sealing the fate of Southeastern Oklahoma.
As a team, Tarleton hit a .219 percentage, compared to Southeastern Oklahoma's .202 mark. The TexAnns were led offensively by
Flynn Harrell, who recorded 15 kills and hit a .367 percentage, and
Rachel Wolf, who collected 11 kills and hit a .292 percentage.
Jessie Hartman added 28 assists, with
Danielle Barker contributing 11 more assists.
Shea McBrearty had 15 digs, while
Jessie Hartman added 13 digs defensively.
The Savage Storm stayed with Tarleton for the most part, but allowed some late runs in games, which made the difference.
Southeastern Oklahoma's most dominant performance was on defense, where they recorded 16 assisted blocks, compared to Tarleton's four. Lunden Azuara had five block assists to go along with her eight kills, while Jordan Parks had four block assists to go along with nine kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
The TexAnns improve to 12-2 on the season, and 2-2 in conference play, while the Savage Storm drop to 2-9 on the season.
Tarleton heads to Fort Worth on Tuesday, Sept. 28 to face off against the Rams of Texas Wesleyan.
