TexAnns battle past the Lady Rams 3-0 for fourth straight win

FORT WORTH – The Tarleton volleyball squad fought their way to their fourth straight victory with a 3-0 sweep of Texas Wesleyan Tuesday night.

The TexAnns held off a rallying Lady Ram team, taking game one 25-23 and game two 25-22. In game three, they jumped out to a 10-1 lead, then held on for a 25-18 win.

Reigning Lone Star Conference offensive player of the week Flynn Harrell had a productive day with nine kills and seven digs for Tarleton, while Catherine Cutbirth had six kills, three block assists and hit a .545 percentage.

Shea McBrearty, the LSC's defensive player of the week, added 14 digs to her season total, while Danielle Barker contributed six more digs, to go along with seven assists, four kills and a TexAnn-high .667 attack percentage. Jessie Hartman also added 22 assists to Tarleton's assault.

As a team, the TexAnns were out-hit by Texas Wesleyan, who hit a .177 percentage compared to Tarleton's .176. The TexAnns' victory was achieved with six service aces, 14 block assists and seven team blocks.

Despite out-hitting Tarleton, the Lady Rams committed eight service errors and six receiving errors as a team.

Texas Wesleyan was led by Kristen Venhuizen, who had nine kills and nine digs, and Katherine Rosenbush, who collected nine kills.

Evoni Darling recorded 31 of the Lady Rams' 37 assists, while Marissa Rangel added 12 digs to Texas Wesleyan's efforts.

Tarleton hopes to carry its momentum over to this weekend when the TexAnns head to Kansas for the Washburn Classic, starting the first of four matches Friday, Oct. 1 at 9:30 a.m.
