TOPEKA, Kan. – Tarleton's volleyball squad will head to Topeka, Kan. for the Washburn Classic Friday, with their four-game win streak in tact.
The TexAnn's will face the University of Nebraska-Omaha tomorrow morning, before meeting Truman State at 4:30 p.m. Then on Saturday, Tarleton will take on Washburn at 1 p.m., and Southwest Baptist at 5 p.m.
This season, the 13-2 TexAnns are hitting a .207 attack percentage as at team, and averaging 13.3 kills per game, 12.3 assists per game and 15.5 digs per game. They have also hit 86 aces, while compiling 84 total blocks.
Tarleton is led offensively by
Rachel Wolf, who has a team-high of 175 kills, and
Jessie Hartman, who has 362 assists and 14 aces, to go along with 107 digs on defense.
Flynn Harrell has recorded 121 kills, with
Stacie Murrah adding 102 kills.
Danielle Barker has collected 205 assists, while
Shea McBrearty leads the TexAnns with 23 aces.
Defensively, McBrearty leads Tarleton with 217 digs, while
Catherine Cutbirth has 47 blocks on the year.
The TexAnns' opponents this weekend will be tough match ups for Tarleton, with Truman State and Washburn putting up nearly identical numbers as the TexAnns.
Tarleton will get their weekend started with Nebraska-Omaha, who is 9-5 this season and hitting just a .192 percentage. They are averaging 12.6 kills per game, 11.3 assists per game and 15 digs per game, while compiling 79 aces and 79 blocks.
Kayla Uhing leads the Mavericks with 166 kills and 136 digs, while Emily Myers has 530 of the team's 601 assists. Angie Reicks has 232 digs on the year, while Brittany Hansen has 35 blocks.
Next, the TexAnns will take on the Bulldogs of Truman State, who are off to a hot start this season, going 12-2, including a 6-0 neutral site record. The Bulldogs are hitting a .230 attack percentage, with 13.3 kills per game, 12.3 assists per game, and 16.3 digs per game. They also have a stellar 120 blocks on the season, to go along with their 89 aces.
Truman State is anchored by Megan Sharpe, who has 141 kills, 53 blocks, and his hitting a .353 percentage this season. Ashley Petak leads the Bulldogs with 315 assists, 19 aces, and has 129 digs. Casey Bruno has contributed 198 digs, while Allison Barker has added 164 digs. Kylie Easlon is a duel-threat for Truman State, collecting 224 assists and 21 aces this season.
On Saturday, the TexAnns will battle the host Lady Blues of Washburn. Washburn is 12-1 this season, while hitting a phenomenal .265 attack percentage. They average 13.4 kills per game, 12.5 assists per game and 16.9 digs per game, while collecting 74 aces and 108 team blocks.
The Lady Blues are commanded by Jessica Fey, who has recorded 105 kills and 46 blocks, and Amanda Guess, who has 404 assists on the year, averaging 9.4 per game. Molly Smith has collected 201 digs this season, while Mollie Lacy has 104 kills, 28 blocks, and a .376 hitting percentage.
Tarleton's final match up of the weekend will be against Southwest Baptist early Saturday evening. The Bearcats are just 6-7 this season, but 5-1 at neutral sites. With a .183 hitting percentage, Southwest Baptist has struggled at times this season. The Bearcats are averaging 11.4 kills per game, 10.5 assist per game and 14.6 digs per game, adding 51 aces and 85.5 blocks to their totals.
Ashley Jurgensmeyer has contributed the majority of Southwest Baptist's attack with 157 kills and a .340 hitting percentage, while collecting 38 blocks. Brianna Wallace has 437 assists this season, while Marcy Greenwade and Alyx Glover have 182 and 123 digs respectively.
