ARKADELPHIA - The Tarleton women's tennis team completed their competition at the Ouachita Baptist Quad with a win over host Ouachita Baptist.
In doubles action, the TexAnns won two of their three pairings, with
Adriana Jaskova/ Mariana Frietas defeating Deivardin/Chumbley (8-3) and
Melanie Barnes/
Alicia Perez defeating Bodine/Street (8-1).
The duo of
Kayla Deatherage and Sivia Nieva had to forfeit their match due to an injury by Nieva. She also had to forfeit her single's match and will be hoping to compete in conference play next week.
In singles play, the No. 1 through No. 4 players for Tarleton won their matches. Perez defeated Divardin (6-4, 6-2), Jaskova defeated Bhumbley (6-2, 6-0), Frietas defeated Sokolava (6-1, 6-2) and Barnes defeated Bodine (6-1, 6-0). Deatherage came up short in her singles match, dropping a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Kieselova.
The TexAnns won two of their three match-ups last weekend, with wins over Southwest Baptist and the Lady Tigers. Their only defeat came at the hands of Delta State.
Head coach
Lance Drake was enthusiastic about his team's performance on the weekend.
"We ended the weekend strong with the 2-1 victory over OBU," said Drake. "It was unfortunate that Silvia was hurt and we had to forfeit those two matches, but we had to pull her in hopes of having her in our conference matches which begin this week."
Drake also spoike of the upcoming challenges.
"A lot of good match play this weekend which should help us in the coming matches," said Drake. "We have to continue to keep working and improving."
