Tarleton tennis takes 5-4 win away from Dallas Baptist

DALLAS – The Tarleton women's tennis team won a 5-4 decision over Dallas Baptist Tuesday night up in Dallas.

The TexAnns started off hot, winning the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches. Alicia Perez and Mariana Freitas powered their way to an 8-6 victory over the duo of Gennissen and Innes in the first match of the day. Adrianna Jaskova and Melanie Barnes followed that up with an 8-5 win over Olian and Holmes for the second victory of the day.

When singles play started, Tarleton did the same thing in the first two matches with No. 50 Perez defeating Gennissen in three sets (6-4, 2-6, 6-2).

Jaskova had an impress victory over DBU's Olian when she won 6-0, 6-0.

Barnes also won her No. 4 singles match (6-3, 6-7, 6-3) to give Tarleton the edge and the 5-4 victory.

Head coach Lance Drake was excited that the TexAnns were able to pull out an important victory.

“We knew this was going to be a tough match,” said Drake.  “They had several close matches and just recently had defeated No. 21 UCO. The ladies kept finding ways to win these matches and we had much better production out of our doubles today. The singles matches were competitive with some very good play from all parties.”

Drake also talked about individual perfomances.

Adriana played a very focused and smart match dismantling Olian from DBU,” said Drake. “Freshmen Perez and Barnes both pulled out tough three-set matches and I'm very proud of them.  Barnes sealed the victory with her win.  Freitas had some bad luck and was dealing with an injury.  She tried buy just couldn't overcome it today.  Kayla fought hard but came out on the short end. I'm proud of all the girls' efforts today.”

Tarleton has a short break before heading to St. Edward's on Thursday for another crucial non-conference match.
