EDMOND, Okla. – The No. 18 Tarleton baseball team dropped both games on Saturday in Edmond, Okla. by scores of 4-1 and 6-2.
With the pair of losses, the Texans fall to 29-9 on the season and 18-8 in the Lone Star Conference.
Game 1 – UCO 4, Tarleton 1
The Bronchos struck first in game one with an RBI groundout in the second inning, before adding three more runs in the third to take a 4-0 lead.
Facing such a daunting task of coming back from four down in a seven inning ballgame, Tarleton attempted a comeback starting in the fourth. Zane Hensley and Travis Hayes reached base on singles with two outs in the inning. Tim Rainey followed with a clutch RBI double to rightfield, plating Hensley.
Unfortunately for the Texans, they would not be able to rally completely and fell in game one, 4-1.
Tarleton did manage to out-hit UCO 10-4, but left nine men stranded on base. Hensley led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 outing, scoring the lone run for the Texans. Rainey added a 2-for-3 game and the RBI, while Ethan Stuckly went 2-for-4.
Starter Ryan Salt (2-1) went the entire game for Tarleton and suffered the loss after giving up four runs, three earned, on just four hits.
Uriah Fisher (2-4) tossed all seven innings for the Bronchos and was awarded the win for his efforts.
Game 2 – UCO 6, Tarleton 2
UCO once again got on the board first in the second game with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Tarleton answered quickly with single runs in the second and third innings. Hayes led off the second with a solo blast to make it 2-1. Chris Casazza tied the game at 2-2 in the third with an RBI double to left, scoring Junnior Dishmey.
The Bronchos took advantage of playing on their home field and went on to out-score the Texans 4-0 in the rest of the game, handing Tarleton their second loss of the day.
Dishmey led Tarleton offensively with a 3-for-4 game, while Casazza and Hayes plated the Texans' only runs in game two. The visitors once again left nine men stranded, which led the Texans downfall in Edmond.
Brandon Van Riper (3-3) was handed the loss after giving up five runs, four earned, on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings of work.
Jordan Stern (4-4) needed no help from the UCO bullpen, pitching all nine innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and striking out 11 Texans.
Tarleton looks to rebound Sunday when they face the Bronchos for a make-up of Friday's game. First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. in Edmond, Okla.
