Carla Cooper named LSC Female Athlete of the Year

RICHARDSON – Tarleton's Carla Cooper has been named the Lone Star Conference Female Athlete of the Year for 2010-11.

The TexAnn senior golfer from Arlington was chosen following a vote from the league's sports information directors. Cameron's Chase Larsson was named the LSC Male Athlete of the Year.

Cooper completed a stellar four-year run for the TexAnns with individual and team titles at both the LSC and West Region Championships. She helped her team to its fourth straight LSC team crown and fifth straight region title. She finished the year as the No. 2 NCAA Division II golfer in the nation and averaged 73.3 strokes per round. She claimed six individual titles and helped the TexAnns to eight team tournament victories. She was named a first team Capital One Academic All-District VI selection, a National Golf Coaches Association All-American and First Team All-Region pick along with the LSC Player of the Year award for women's golf for the third straight season and golf's Academic Player of the Year for the second time.

Cooper finished second in the 2010-11 LSC Academic Athlete of the Year by just two points in the voting.

Cooper is the second Tarleton player to be named a LSC Athlete of the Year. Steve Kelly, a former Texan quarterback, received the honor for the 2001-02 school year.
