SAN ANGELO – The Tarleton women's volleyball team came up short in their fifth match of the season, falling to Angelo State three games to one Thursday night.
The TexAnns got off to a fast start, winning the first set 25-20, but were unable to capitalize on the early lead, losing the next three sets (16-25, 19-25, 19-25).
Tarleton (3-2, 0-1 LSC) dropped their Lone Star Conference opener to ASU after winning three of four games at the St. Mary's Invitational last weekend.
Against the Rambelles, the TexAnns were led offensively by Flynn Harrell, who had 14 kills, and Jessie Hartman, who had 18 assists. Reigning LSC Defensive Player of the Week Nikki McNorton had five blocks to go with nine kills.
Lacy Hodges had a game-high 19 digs as Tarleton recorded 11 blocks to ASU's six blocks defensively.
The Rambelles were led by LSC preseason Offensive Player of the Year Chelsea Gibson, who recorded 12 kills, while Debbie Ohl added 11 kills. Alex Woolsey contributed 42 assists and Kaelen Valdez had a team-high 17 digs.
The TexAnns return to action Friday, Sept. 9 in San Angelo when they begin competition in the Angelo State Tournament with Texas-Permian Basin at 9 a.m. followed by Edinboro at 3 p.m.
