STEPHENVILLE - Head coach
Lonn Reisman achieved win No. 500 at Tarleton on Saturday and has just a few days to enjoy it before a tough road contest against the Aggies. Cameron is 11-5 on the year and 7-3 in conference play. The Texans defeated the Aggies at home earlier this season, 66-41.
GAMETIME
Tip-off is at 8 p.m. for the men's game and 6 p.m. for the women's game in Wisdom Gym.
LAST WEEK
The Texans (17-1) gave Reisman his 500th win by crushing Commerce 78-53 at home. This came just three days after Tarleton narrowly escaped Commerce with a four-point victory.
Fabian Wilson averaged 18.5 points and 5.0 rebounds, including a career-high 27 points on Wednesday.
Wes Dipprey added 9.0 points and 10.0 rebounds a game.
THIS YEAR
On the season, Tarleton is shooting 48.2 percent from the floor, 32.3 percent from three-point land and 70.3 percent from the charity stripe. The Texans are averaging 70.8 points per game and 36.4 rebounds per game.
HOLDING OFF OPPONENTS
Opponent's are shooting just 35.2 percent overall and averaging 52.9 points per game against the Texans. Tarleton is No. 1 in the nation in points allowed and field goal percentage allowed.
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Chris Harrell leads the Texans with 13.4 points per game and shoots 88.2 percent from the free throw line.
Fabian Wilson is adding 11.3 points and 6.8 boards per contest, while Shedrick Haynes contributes 10.4 points and 3.6 assists each game.
SIZING UP THE OPPONENT
The Aggies have been on a roll as of late, despite a pair of tough losses to Midwestern St. last week. At 11-5 on the year and 7-3 in LSC play, Cameron has played their best basketball recently, even though their returning top scorere Vinicius Telo has been injured.
The Texans will have their handful Wednesday in Aggie Gym, where last season, Tarleton lost their first game.
STOPPING THE AGGIES
Overall, the Aggies are averaging 70.6 points per game and holding opponents to 65.8 points per game. As a team, Cameron is shooting 45.2 percent from the floor and 34.5 percent from three-point range. They rank in the middle of the pack in most statistical categories, but are No. 3 in field goal percentage defense (.418).
Cameron will be looking to upset Tarleton as they are No. 3 in the LSC standings.
WHO TO LOOK FOR
Cameron's leading scorer Milton Garner (19.0ppg) has had to pick up the slack after fellow Aggie Vinicius Telo (18.8ppg) went down with an injury 10 games ago. Garner also leads the team with 5.8 rebounds per game, while Desmond Henry is adding 10.2 points and 4.9 boards a contest.
AMONG THE BEST
The Texans are ranked near the top of almost every statistical category in the conference.
Tarleton is No. 1 in scoring defense (52.9 ppg) and No. 1 in scoring margin (+17.8). The Texans are also No. 1 in field goal defense (.352), No. 1 in three-point field goal defense (29.8) and No. 2 in rebounding defense (29.7).
Individually,
Chris Harrell is No. 9 in scoring (13.4 ppg), while
Fabian Wilson is No. 3 in rebounding (6.8) and No. 3 in blocks (0.9). Shedrick Haynes is No. 3 in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.4) as well as No. 3 in assists (3.6). Harrell and
Coleman Furst are both in the top four in free throw percentage.
NO. 1 DEFENSE
Tarleton finished the 2010-11 season as the No. 1 defense in the nation. That was not only at the Division II level, but also in Division I, III and Junior College ranks. This year's team has big shoes to fill, but has held opponents in check thus far as opposing offenses have averaged just 52.9 points per game. That is good enough for No. 1 in the nation again at the DII level.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
The Texans will take on Cameron in Lawton, Okla. before returning home to host Fox Sports Southwest's Game of the Week versus No. 13 Midwestern State.
DID YOU KNOW?
The Texans are just one win shy of tying the best start in the modern era, 19-1 (2002-03 season).
