STEPHENVILLE - Tarleton continued its winning ways Tuesday night as the TexAnns (19-5, 11-2) pushed their winning streak to eight straight with a sweep of Texas A&M-Kingsville (12-11, 5-9).

Tarleton is now one win shy of its third straight 20-win season and the fourth since joining the NCAA in 1994. All four NCAA 20-win seasons have come under the instruction of head coach Mary Schindler.

The TexAnns started off slow by falling behind 6-2, forcing an early timeout. Out of the break, the TexAnns went on an 8-4 run to bring the score even at 10-10.

The Javelinas responded with a 8-3 run of their own to retake the lead at 18-13, but the TexAnns battled right back - starting with an attack error and a kill by Stacie Murrah to start a 7-3 TexAnn rally to knot the score at 20-20.

The teams stayed even through 25-25 when Murrah landed back-to-back kills to secure the opening set win for Tarleton, 27-25.

Neither team was able to pull away in the second set, as the teams traded the lead with neither side able to go ahead by more than two points for the majority of the set.

With the TexAnns holding a slim 21-20 lead, Murrah struck again for the TexAnns to make the set 22-20. After a bad set made it 23-20, the Javelinas were forced to take a timeout.

Out of the break, Tarleton ended the set with a 3-1 run off kills by Katie Covell, Danielle Barker and Meg Umbel. Umbel's kill sealed the deal at 25-21.

In the final set, the TexAnns found themselves down early by a slim 6-5 margin. An Umbel kill, however, started a 5-0 Tarleton run to put the home team up 10-6.

Kingsville clawed back to tie the game at 14-14 and the teams traded points, keeping it tied through 17-17 before a Nikki McNorton gave Tarleton the last lead it would need.

The TexAnns maintained the lead and Umbel ended the set - and match - again with her seventh kill of the night.

Murrah led the TexAnns with 15 kills and a .394 hitting percentage, while McNorton also cracked double figures in kills with 11. Covell just missed a double-double with nine kills and 14 digs.

Barker led the team with 42 assists and just missed a double-double as well with nine digs. Emily Klein led the team with 22 digs while Kelsey Raglin added 13.

Tarleton will host Eastern New Mexico at 6 p.m. in the first game of the final weekend doubleheader of the season. All fans are encouraged to bring canned foods for a canned food drive. Fans with a nonperishable food item will receive free admission into the contest.
