THE SERIES
Saturday's contest marks the 29th game between Tarleton and Angleo State, with the series deadlocked at 14-14. Tarleton has won 10-consecutive games over the Rams dating back to the 2001 season.
The Texans are 8-4 all-time when playing the Rams in Stephenville and have not lost to ASU at home since Oct. 31, 1998.

HEAD COACH CARY FOWLER
Tarleton head coach Cary Fowler is in his third year at the helm of the Texan Football program. Fowler took over the team in January 2010 after then-head coach Sam McElroy departed to Texas Tech for an assistant coaching position.
Fowler went just 3-8 with the Texans in his first campaign as head coach in 2010. But, the team and his coaching staff bounced back in 2011 with a 6-5 mark, which included going 5-3 in Lone Star Conference play and winning its final five games of the regular-season.
Fowler heads into this weekend's game with an overall record of 14-17. He is 2-0 when playing the Rams.

ASU HEAD COACH WILL WAGNER
West Texas native Will Wagner, enters his second season as Angelo State head football coach after being named to the position in December of 2011.
Wagner went 5-6 with the Rams in his first season and brings in an overall record of 10-11 since taking over head football coaching duties.
Prior to ASU, he was a member of the Northwest Missouri staff in 1998 and helped lead the Bearcats to 10 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) championships, seven national championship games and three national titles. During his tenure, the Bearcats were 108-8 (.931) in the 12-member MIAA.
As a player, Wagner was an All-American defensive back at Hardin-Simmons University, where he played from 1992-95 and earned selection to the university's 20th Anniversary Team in the fall of 2009. He helped lead Odessa Permian to a Texas State Championship during his senior season in 1991.
Wagner is 0-1 all-time against Tarleton.

LAST WEEK FOR THE TEXANS
The Texans led by 13 points midway through the third quarter last Saturday, but North Alabama managed to find the end zone on consecutive possession late in the fourth quarter to take a 28-27 lead with 4:37 left to play.
Enter, Jake Fenske. Fenske (QB, Sr, Round Rock), making just his second collegiate start ever, engineered a game winning drive for the Texans as he went 4-for-5 on drive and accumulated 40 yards through the air, which included a 22-yard touchdown pass to Arthur Buckingham (WR, Sr, Pilot Point).
The Texans made it a 35-28 game following a two-point conversion and the Texan defense did the rest, holding the Lions to a four-and-out turnover on downs possession.
Blake Barnes (K, Fr, Stephenville) iced the game with a 29-yard field goal with 16 seconds left and Tarleton walked away from Florence, Ala., with a 38-28 victory over the NCAA Divison II powerhouse.

ASU's LAST OUTING
Angele State heads into Saturday's regular-season finale with a win from last week as well after downing Incarnate Word 38-21 in San Angelo last Saturday.
The Rams accumulated 340 yards of total offense to UIW's 260 yards. The ASU defense allowed the Cardinals 174 yards on the ground, but held the UIW passing attack to just 89 yards through the air.
ASU quarterback Kyle Washington completed 12 of his 16 passes for 189 yards and had three touchdowns on the day.
Defensive end Austin Benson was a terror in the backfield for the Rams, collecting eight tackles in the game that included four tackles-for-loss and three and a half sacks.

SCOUTING THE RAMS
The Rams have the exact same record now (5-5) that it did last season heading into the final game of the season against the Texans. ASU has picked up wins against Western State (42-14), Abilene Christian (28-23), Eastern New Mexico (49-19), A&M-Commerce (17-16) and Incarnate Word (38-21).
The Rams have losses against Chadron State (7-19), Valdosta State (10-43), West Texas A&M (9-35), Midwestern State (28-35) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (21-34).
ASU could easily have the toughest schedule among Lone Star Confernece teams. The Rams have losses to three ranked opponents at the time; #18 Valdosta State, #21 WTAMU and #13 MSU. Chadron State is currently ranked #21 in the nation, while TAMUK ranked as high as #14 earlier this season. Abilene Christian was ranked #9 in the season as well, making it six ranked teams ASU has faced this season.

BIG NUMBERS FOR BACK-UP QB
Tarleton quarterback Jake Fenske has made just two starts in his career and in those starts the senior quarterback has led the Texans to a pair of wins. Fenske has put up Lone Star Conference Player of the Week-type numbers over the last two weeks, but so far had not been honored with the weekly award.
In his two starts, Fenske has completed 57 of his 79 passes for a 72 percent pass-completion rating for 591 yards and seven touchdowns. He has thrown four picks, but one of them came very late in the fourth quarter against Incarnate Word. In his first start, the Round Rock native also completed his first 13 passes and had three touchdowns before throwing his first uncompleted pass.
The redshirt senior threw five touchdowns and ran for another one on the road against the Cardinals a few weeks ago, and then went into a hostile environment at North Alabama where he tossed a Tarleton record-breaking 99-yard touchdown pass to Cordell Valentine (WR, Sr, Vicksburg, Miss.). Fenske became just the fifth player in the history of the LSC to achieve the feat.

RECORDS WERE MEANT TO BE BROKEN
Fenske did set a new school record with his 99-yard pass to Valentine last week. The senior quarterback broke the previous record, which was a 95-yard pass from Chad Cole to Colin Yocom against Central Oklahoma back on Nov. 9, 1996.
Fenske shares the record with four players in the LSC: Binky Ford to Frankie Reescano (Sam Houston vs. Howard Payne, 1980); Matt Morris to Casey Cowan (A&M-Commerce vs. Midwestern State, 1997); Taylor Harris to Stephen Burton (West Texas A&M vs. Tarleton, 2010); and Jake Glover to Vernon Johnson (Midwestern State vs. Abilene Christian, 2011).

TWEET THIS
Many Tarleton fans tweeted about Fenske and Valentine's 99-yard touchdown play last weekend, requesting the play be a part of ESPN Sports Center's Top-10 plays since the game was web-streamed live on the ESPN Network (ESPN3.com). Texan fans headed to their Twitter accounts to tweet the play and hashtag the play (#SCTop10).
Unfortunately, the play was not part of ESPN's Top 10 plays of the day, but Fenske managed to get a celebrity tweet from his former high school teammate, Aaron Williams: @ajwilliams23 | My Brotha Jake Fenske sets Tarleton school record with 99-yd pass to Cordell Valentine #ESPN3 RT so he can make #SCTop10
Williams, a former defensive back for the University of Texas, currently plays cornerback for the Buffalo Bills.

RUNNING BACKS GET TO 500 YARDS EACH
Tarleton running backs Vaughn Smith (RB, Jr, Menlo Park, Calif.) and Zach Henshaw (RB, Fr, Fischer) have both eclipsed the 500-yard mark for the season. Vaughn heads into this Saturday's game with 764 yards rushing on 142 attempts, while Henshaw has gained 503 yards on the ground on 87 touches. Henshaw still needs 10 yards to net 500 yards for the season.

CATCH THIS
Clifton Rhodes III (WR, So, Fort Worth) has 55 catches on the season, which ranks 10th most in school history for catches in a single-season. Rhodes III has 628 receiving yards this year to go along with his 827 yards last season. He needs just 45 more yards to eclipse the 1,500 yard mark barrier.

GIVE ME FIVE... HUNDRED
The Texan offense has now accumulated over 500 yards of total offense three times this season. Tarleton tallied a season-high 564 yards against Eastern New Mexico and had 556 yards against Abilene Christian. This past weekend in Florence, Ala., the Texans racked up 537 yards en route to the 38-28 victory over the Lions.

BARNES KICKS HIS WAY INTO RECORD BOOKS
Blake Barnes (K, Fr, Stephenville) kicked five field goals in Tarleton's 46-10 win over A&M-Commerce back on Oct. 20, tying a school record for most single-game field goals in the process. Barnes tied the mark, which was first set by Trampus Wilson back on Sept. 4, 1993 against East Central. J.W. Boren made five field goals as well back on Oct. 21, 2000 against Abilene Christian.
Barnes' game-tying field goal on Saturday came from 38-yards out and it followed a one hour and 50 minute lightning delay.

HONORED BY THE LSC
Texan kicker Blake Barnes was named last week's LSC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week, following his school-tying, five field goal performance in Commerce last Saturday. Barnes tied Tarleton's all-time record for most field goals in a game, sharing the record with Trampus Wilson and J.W. Boren.
Barnes became the third Texan to earn POW honors this season as both Jerome Regal (Offensive POW) and Marquis Wadley (Defensive POW) both earned the weekly honor following Tarleton's 20-17 win over Midwestern State in the first game of the season.

UP NEXT FOR THE TEXANS
The regular-season for the Tarleton Texans closes with its game against Angelo State on Saturday. Tarleton will have to wait for this weekend's set of games to be completed, as well as waiting for next week's regional rankings to be announced to see if the team received a possible bowl bid to play in the Kanza Bowl in Topeka, Kan.
