Texans back at Wisdom Gym to host Abilene Christian on Saturday

STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton Texans (4-2, 0-1 LSC) will host the Abilene Christian Wildcats (4-3, 1-2 LSC) in Lone Star Conference action, this Saturday, Dec. 8 in Stephenville. Tip-off between the Texans and Wildcats is set for 7 p.m. inside Wisdom Gym.
 
QUICK HITS
• Tarleton snapped its four-game winning streak with Wednesday's 57-52 loss to Angelo State.
• The Wildcats have dropped two-straight games after collecting wins in its previous four outings.
• The Wildcats are coming off a 90-88 loss to A&M-Commerce in Abilene this past Tuesday.
 
SERIES HISTORY
• Tarleton leads the all-time series 33-30 after defeating the Wildcats in both games last season.
• Tarleton has won seven consecutive meetings between the two teams, which dates back to an 80-64 win over the Wildcats on Feb. 18, 2009.
• Tarleton's last loss to ACU came back on Jan. 28, 2009 - a 73-70 decision in favor of ACU in Abilene.
• The Texans have won 23 of the past 24 games over ACU.
• Tarleton head coach Lonn Reisman is 32-8 all-time when facing the Wildcats.
 
OPENING UP THE LSC SCHEDULE
• Tarleton dropped its LSC opener for the first time since Jan. 14, 2009 with its five-point loss to Angelo State on Wednesday.
• The Texans are now 12-7 in LSC openers since joining the league in 1994.
• Tarleton moved to 2-2 all-time when opening up LSC play against ASU.
 
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
• Head coach Joe Golding is in his second year at the helm of the ACU men's basketball program.
• Golding brings in an overall record of 16-19 into Saturday's contest and is 0-2 all-time when his team plays the Texans.
• Golding was a four-year letterwinner at ACU from 1994-98, playing in all 108 games, and was given the Teague Point Guard Award as a senior. He shot 46 percent from the floor over his four-year career, and averaged 4.3 points and 4.2 assists per game.
• The Wildcats are averaging nearly 76 points (75.7) a game, while giving up 72.9 points to opposing teams. The 75.7 ppg ranks second in the LSC.
• The Wildcats are shooting .478 percent as a team from the field. ACU is shooting .356 from beyond the arc and .575 percent from the charity stripe.
• ACU has three players averaging double figures with Eric Lawton's 16.9 ppg leading the way.
• Steven Werner leads the squad on the boards with 7.7 rebounds per contest. He and Cornelius Cammock both lead the team with seven blocks.
• Lawton has a team-high 27 assists on the season and Parker Wentz leads the team with 15 steals.
 
CARTER'S STREAK ENDS
Davene Carter's consecutive field goals made streak came to an end in Tarleton's 77-61 victory over Alrington Baptist on Saturday.
• Carter (F, So, Duncanville) headed into the contest having made his previous 16 field goal attempts.
• The sophomore made his first four field goals in Saturday's game, pushing the streak to 20-straight field goals just before missing a put-back at the 5:22 mark of the second half.
• Carter heads into Wednesday's game having missed just four field goals (26-for-30) on the young season.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
• The Tarleton Texans are 321-57 (.849) overall when playing inside the friendly confines of Wisdom Gym under head coach Lonn Reisman.
• The Texans have posted a record of 195-24 (.890) at home under Reisman since the year 2000.
• Tarleton is 248-43 (.852) all-time at home under Reisman since joining NCAA Division II.
 
FINAL TUNE-UP
• Saturday's game against Arlington Baptist was Tarleton's final tune-up before opening up the LSC schedule this week.
• The Texans are now 10-4 in contests played the first LSC contest, since the year 2000.
 
CLEMONS PULLS DOWN A NEW CAREER-HIGH
Damion Clemons (F, So, Dallas) recorded a new career-high on Wednesday with seven rebounds.
• His previous career-high had been six rebounds, which he has recorded twice in his two-year span with the Texans.
 
COLEMAN NOTCHES PAIR OF CAREER-HIGHS
• Junior guard Coleman Furst (G, Jr, Densison) scored a career-high 23 points in Saturday's win over the Patriots.
• Coleman's previous career-high had been 15 points, which he scored in the team's first two games this season.
• The Denison native pulled down five rebounds on Saturday as well, which also marked a career high for the third-year player.
• Coleman set a career-high with three steals earlier this season.
 
DOUBLE DOWN
• Sophomore forward Davene Carter scored 11 points and recorded a career-high 13 rebounds on Saturday to notch his first-ever double-double.
• The accomplishment for the young Texan is the first recorded double-double for a Tarleton player this season.
 
UPCHURCH KEEPS SCORING
De'Andre Upchurch (G, Jr, Flint, Mich.) scored 10 points in Tarleton's loss to ASU on Wednesday.
• The junior transfer has now scored double-digits in five of his six games that he has suited up for the Texans.
• He and Furst are the only two Texans to score in double-digits in at least five games this season. Furst has scored in double figures all but one game as well for the Texans.
 
TEXANS PICKED TO WIN LSC
• The Texans were selected to defend its LSC Championship, earning the No. 1 ranking in the preseason poll released by the league office on Oct. 25, 2012.
• Tarleton received 12 of a possible 29 first-place votes in the poll.
• Midwestern State received 12 first-place votes in the poll as well, but Tarleton took the top spot earning 269 total points to MSU's 262.
 
TEXANS DEBUT 2012-13 SEASON AT NO. 17 IN NABC PRESEASON POLL
• The Texans finished the 2011-12 campaign at No. 9 in the nation and head into the new season at No. 17 according to a preseason poll released by the NABC on Nov. 2.
• Tarleton was the highest ranked LSC team in the preseason poll. MSU debuts at No. 23 in 2012-13 after finishing No. 5 last season.
• Including the 2012-13 campaign, Tarleton has been preseason ranked inside the top-25 seven times.
 
TARLETON IN SEASON-OPENERS
• Tarleton snapped a 10-game winning streak in season openers after falling 73-60 to Southwestern Assemblies of God in the 2012-13 opening game. Tarleton fell to 21-4 in season-openers under coach Reisman.
• Tarleton's last loss in a season-opener had come back in 2001 against Wingate (73-83).
 
REISMAN AMONG WINNINGEST ACTIVE COACHES IN NATION
Lonn Reisman entered the 2012-13 season with a .702 winning percentage, which ranks 12th overall among active coaches in NCAA Division II.
• Reisman's .702 winning percentage ranks 26th overall among active coaches in both NCAA Division I and II.
 
TEXANS RANKED NO. 1 IN DEFENSE LAST SEASON
• The Texans finished the season ranked No. 1 overall in scoring defense for a second-straight year after allowing opponents to just 56.3 points per game in 2012-13. The Texans allowed just 53.3 points to finish no. 1 in 2010-11.
 
UP NEXT
• Tarleton will have a long lay-off before returning to action on Tuesday, Dec. 18, hosting Henderson State in non-conference action in Stephenville.
• The Texans and Reddies will tip-off at approximately 8 p.m. following the TexAnns' game with Texas-Permian Basin.
• Following Tarleton's game with HSU, the Texans will not play until Dec. 29, when they host Ouachita Baptist in another non-conference home match-up.
