No. 7 Texans host Wildcats in regular season finale, LSC Championship on the line

STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton men's basketball team will play for at least a share of its sixth Lone Star Conference title on Saturday against Abilene Christian.  Tip-off is at 7 p.m. in Wisdom Gym and the Texans will be hoping to cut down the nets afterwards.  It will also be Senior Night with the seven Tarleton seniors being honored before the game.

LAST WEEK
    The Texans (23-4, 14-3) rebounded off their tough loss at West Texas A&M with a 67-61 victory at Angelo State.  Tarleton was effective on offense and hard-nosed on defense, earning their sixth road win of the season.  Fabian Wilson led the charge with his fifth double-double of the year while Chris Harrell, Shedrick Haynes and Brian Word all scored in double figures for Tarleton.

THIS YEAR
    On the season, Tarleton is shooting 47.3 percent from the floor, 31.9 percent from three-point land and 70.9 percent from the charity stripe.  The Texans are averaging 69.6 points per game and 35.4 rebounds per game.

HOLDING OFF OPPONENTS
    Opponent's are shooting just 37.6 percent overall and averaging 56.7 points per game against the Texans.  Tarleton is No. 2 in the nation in points allowed and No. 2 in field goal percentage allowed.

STATISTICAL LEADERS
    Chris Harrell leads the Texans with 13.0 points per game while Fabian Wilson is close behind with 12.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.  Shedrick Haynes is contributing 10.7 points and 3.6 assists to Tarleton's effort and Wes Dipprey is chipping in 6.9 points and 5.9 boards.

SIZING UP THE OPPONENT
    Abilene Christian will be fighting for its postseason life Saturday against the Texans.  The Wildcats are 12-15 on the season and 4-13 in Lone Star Conference play.  ACU has struggled away from home with a 2-8 road record.
    Tarleton has a narrow lead in the all-time series 31-29.
 
STOPPING THE WILDCATS
    On the year, the Wildcats are averaging 71.9 points per game and holding opponents to 68.9 points each contest.  ACU is shooting 45 percent from the floor, 36.4 percent from three-point range and 69.4 percent from the free throw line.
    The Wildcats are out-rebounding their opponents by 1.3 boards a game and committing fewer turnovers.  They also have the third best scoring offense in the conference and lead the league in three-point field goal percentage.

WHO TO LOOK FOR
    ACU is led offensively by Antonio Bell, who averages 12.9 points and 2.8 assists each game, and Kendall Durant, who averages 12 points per contest.  Zach Williams is adding 11.7 points and 4.2 rebounds to the effort.
    Bell ranks third in the LSC in three-point field goal percentage at 41.5 percent.

AMONG THE BEST
    The Texans are ranked near the top of almost every statistical category in the conference.
    Tarleton is No. 1 in scoring defense (56.7 ppg) and No. 1 in scoring margin (+12.9).  The Texans are also No. 1 in field goal defense (.376), No. 2 in three-point field goal defense (29.3) and No. 2 in rebounding defense (30.1).
    Individually, Chris Harrell is No. 11 in scoring (13.0 ppg), while Fabian Wilson is No. 3 in rebounding (7.1) and No. 7 in blocks (0.9).  Shedrick Haynes is No. 7 in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.2) as well as No. 6 in assists (3.6). Harrell and Coleman Furst rank in the top four in free throw percentage.

WORKING TOWARDS LSC TITLE
    Tarleton has the opporunity to lock up at least a share of the Lone Star Conference title Saturday with a win over Abilene Christian.  The Texans are tied with Midwestern St. at 14-3 in the conference and if both teams win, they will be co-champions.  If the Mustangs lose to Eastern New Mexico, Tarleton will be outright champions.

REMAINING IN THE RANKINGS
    Tarleton was ranked No. 8 in the NABC/NCAA Division II Preseason Polls and No. 1 in the Lone Star Conference Preseason poll.
    The Texans are now No. 7 in the nation and tied at No. 1 in the LSC standings with Midwestern St.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
    The Texans will wrap up the season with a contest at home game against Abilene Christian on Saturday.  Tarleton will then compete in the LSC tournament starting next Wednesday in Allen.

DID YOU KNOW?
    Tarleton has a shot at their sixth Lone Star Conference title in school history after winning at least a share in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2011.

It will be Senior Night on Saturday with seniors Chris Harrell, Shedrick Haynes, Zach Nelson, Fabian Wilson, Larry Petite, Wes Dipprey and Warren Webb recognized before tip-off.
