TexAnns make home debut with Tarleton Invitational this weekend

- Tournament Schedule

STEPHENVILLE – Volleyball action is back in Stephenville as the TexAnns will make their 2012 home debut while hosting the Tarleton Invitational over the next two days.
 
The Tarleton Invitational is a two-day, eight-team tournament held in the South Gym of Wisdom Gym and the Tarleton Recreational Center. The TexAnns will play all four of their games in their home volleyball gym, beginning with a 2:30 p.m. Friday matchup with William Jewell University.
 
Katie Covell will lead the TexAnns into action – coming into the tournament with a team-high 39 kills – while Nikki McNorton (37) and Stacie Murrah (35) are next in line with over 30 kills each.
 
Danielle Barker recorded 104 assists in her first four career starts while Emily Klein enters this weekend as the team's top digger with 73.
 
Each of the eight teams will play four games over the tournament – two on Friday and two on Saturday. Tarleton's tournament schedule feature matches against WJU as well as New Mexico Highlands, Ouachita Baptist and Southeastern Oklahoma.
 
The Cardinals of William Jewell enter the weekend having won one of the four matches last weekend at Pittsburg State. They are led by a duo of 40-kill hitters – Hannah Herndon (47) and Jordan Jackson (40) – after the first 16 sets of the season.
 
In the 7 p.m. game Friday night, the TexAnns will be challenged by New Mexico Highlands, the only team Tarleton will see with a winning record this weekend, comes into the match with a 3-1 record. They are led by Darian Mullen with 62 kills and a pair of 100-assist players – Rae Mulitalo (179) and Katie Saveedra (106).
 
Saturday, the TexAnns will play a pair of struggling foes – Ouachita Baptist and Southeastern Oklahoma – who enter the tournament with matching 0-4 records.
 
Ouachita Baptist and Tarleton are set to begin at noon. The Tigers are led by Megan Askew with 35 kills and 13 blocks. Abby Pickett (33) and Faith Avalos (30) also lead the Tigers in kills.
 
The tournament will conclude with a 5 p.m. match between Tarleton and SEOSU.
 
The Savage Storm is led by Emily Gentle with 43 kills and as a team have only recorded a .111 hitting percentage over their first four games of the season.
 
Tarleton is 2-2 after winning matches against St. Joseph's and No. 12 Wayne State last weekend at the Colorado Mines Tournament.
 
The tournament is on a rolling clock and each game time is approximate. There will be a 20 minute warm-up period between each match.
