Box Score STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton was swept by Texas Woman's Tuesday night in their annual visit to Denton.
This game was a complete turnaround from the first meeting, which was a five-set marathon with two, extra-point sets in Stephenville on October 18.
Tarleton opened the set in a 2-2 tie before the Pioneers took the lead and never looked back. Tarleton trailed by as many as four but never could bring the set to an even score again as TWU went on to claim the set 25-22.
In the middle set, Tarleton kept the game at 3-3 right off the bat but a service error gave Texas Woman's a 4-3 lead and the serve – which they took advantage of with nine straight service points to lead 13-3. Tarleton cut the lead to as little as four at 24-20 but dropped the set 25-20.
The TexAnns put together a valiant effort last in the third to attempt to extend the game, but ultimately fell short.
Trailing 21-12,
Jazmine Green landed a kill shot to make it 21-13 and give the serve to
Kelsey Raglin – who brough the TexAnns to 21-15. After the teams traded points,
Kaylea Beck served up six straight points to tie the game at 22-22. The Pioneers ended the set with two kills and a block to complete the sweep.
Jasmyne Brown led the team with seven kills while
Kaitlyn White and
Stacie Murrah each had six. As a team, Tarleton recorded just a .129 hitting percentage, including a .024 and .125 in sets two and three.
Danielle Barker led the team with 30 assists.
Katie Covell led the team with eight digs while
Emily Klein had just six. This is the first time since Oct. 6, 2012 that Klein has had less than 10 digs in a game – the last one came at home against Texas Woman's.
Tarleton returns home Saturday for a 2 p.m. match against Texas A&M-Kingsville in Wisdom Gym.
