Box Score STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton State snapped its modest two-game home losing skid with authority Saturday afternoon, sweeping Eastern New Mexico to improve to 9-6 on the season and 3-1 in Lone Star Conference action.
The TexAnns established their dominance early, jumping out to a quick 6-1 lead. The Zias broke the skid with back-to-back kills to make it 6-3, but a
Jasmyne Brown kill started an 11-4 Tarleton run that put the TexAnns in control 17-7.
Eastern New Mexico had a 4-0 spurt in them later in the opening set, but Tarleton responded with a 5-0 run of its own to put the game out of reach. A kill by
Kaitlyn White kill and ENMU error were the final two points for the TexAnn victory in set one.
In the second set, Tarleton feel behind 1-3 to open the set, but a
Stacie Murrah kill shot started a 15-7 Tarleton run – capped off by five straight points to make it 16-10.
The Zias stayed as close as four through 20-16, but a
Jazmine Green kill was the first of the final seven points as the TexAnns outscored ENMU 5-2 down the stretch – ending the game on a Brown kill – to secure a 2-0 advantage in the match.
In the final set, things stayed tight over the first 17 points – with the teams trading small runs to open the set.
Green struck again with a kill to make it 15-13, which started an 11-3 run down the stretch to secure the three-set victory for the TexAnns.
White led the team in kills with 12 while Murrah added 11. Green and
Meg Umbel each had nine kills while Brown added eight of her own. Tarleton hit a season-high .360 for the match with Green (.348), Brown (.353), Murrah (.360), White (.524) and Umbel (.533) all hitting above the .300 mark.
Danielle Barker was the team's assist leader with 44, just missing out on a double-double with nine digs.
Emily Klein was the team dig leader with 18.
Tarleton will return to action in San Angelo next Saturday when they visit the Rambelles.
