Texans Fall to Lions in Season-Finale

Box Score STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Tarleton State Texan football team dropped its regular season finale on Saturday, falling 44-7 to North Alabama in non-conference action at Tarleton Memorial Stadium in Stephenville.
 
The Texans (7-3), who came into the game ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Super Region Four rankings, will now have to wait and see if the team earns a berth into the NCAA Division II playoffs that will be announced tomorrow at 4 p.m. on NCAA.com.
 
The Texans' only touchdown of the game came with 8:42 left to play in the third quarter when Collin Strahan completed a 19-yard pass to Bubba Tandy in the end zone.
 
The Texans trailed 17-7 after finding paydirt, but the Lions (8-2) managed to put the ball into the end zone four more times over the course of the final two quarters and get the non-conference victory.
 
Strahan finished the game completing eight of his 15 passes for 135 yards. He had a long pass of 41 yards that went to Clifton Rhodes III midway through the fourth quarter. Rhodes finished the contest with a team-high 58 yards receiving on two catches.
 
Jerome Regal led the Texans on the ground with 59 yards and Zach Henshaw tallied 50 yards on the ground as well.
 
Marquis Wadley tied his career-high, which he set last weekend, with 18 tackles. Dan Jackson was right behind him with 10 tackles on the day as well.
 
Tarleton totaled 290 yards in the ballgame with 149 yards coming on the ground and 141 yards through the air.
 
UNA allied 508 total yards on offense and was paced by Lamonte Thompson's 113 rushing yards. Jacob Tucker recorded 74 yards on the ground and tallied two touchdowns on the day, while Lee Mayhall had five catches for a game-high 147 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
 
UNA quarterback Luke Wingo was 9-for-14 through the air with 174 yards and the two TD's to Mayhall.
 
Should the Texans not be invited to the NCAA Division II playoffs, the Texans have a chance to secure a bowl berth in the Heart of Texas Bowl that will be played on Dec. 7, in Copperas Cove, Texas. The bowl game announcement will be made on Monday, Nov. 18.
