TexAnns down Kingsville in straight sets

Tarleton records first winning sweep since Oct. 5

Jazmine Green had a career-high .529 hitting percentage Saturday against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Box Score STEPHENVILLE – Stacie Murrah and Jazmine Green led a fierce Tarleton offense to a clean sweep of Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday to give the TexAnns their first victorious sweep since October 5.
 
As a team, Tarleton hit .282 while holding the Javelinas to just .159. The TexAnns also topped the .300 plateau in sets one and three at .308 in the opening set and .381 in the clincher.
 
In the opening set, Tarleton fell behind early as Kingsville held a slim three-point lead at 11-8, but an attack error opened the door for the TexAnns to start a 6-2 run and take the lead at 15-13.
 
After the Javelinas clawed back to knot the score at 17-17, Tarleton went on an 8-3 run down the set – ending the match on a kill from Murrah – to secure the first set victory. Kingsville didn't score consecutive points during the final Tarleton run.
 
In the second set, the TexAnns ran into some offensive woes – hitting just .163 for the set and committing 11 errors – but managed to fight back from a 19-15 deficit and win the set 26-24. With the score even at 24-24, Kelsey Raglin and Murrah landed back-to-back kills to take a 2-0 advantage in the match.
 
Tarleton never allowed the Javelinas to make a run in the final set as Kingsville failed to put together more than two consecutive points at any point during the match. The TexAnns ended the final game 25-20 with a Green kill.
 
Murrah tallied 17 kills while Green notched 12. Green led the team with a .526 hitting percentage on a 12 kills, two errors and 19 attacks. Murrah hit .379 for the game.
 
Danielle Barker led the team with 48 assists and added nine digs to fall one shy of a double-double. Emily Klein led the way with 14 digs while Raglin (11) and Katie Covell (10) notched double-figure digs as well.
 
Tarleton will hit the road for three straight away games before ending the regular season at home against Angelo State on November 16.

- The nine-game stretch of Tarleton going between victorious sweeps is the longest since 2011 when Tarleton recorded its first winning sweep 12 games into the start of the season.
