THE GAME
The Tarleton State men's basketball team will open-up the 2013-14 campaign this Saturday, Nov. 9 as they play host to Southwestern Adventist in Stephenville. Tip-off between the Texans and Knights is set for 7 p.m. inside Wisdom Gym.
QUICK HITS
• The Texans begin its 26th season under the direction of head coach
Lonn Reisman, who enters Saturday's game with an overall record of 530-226.
• Tarleton State is coming off a 20-10 season in 2012-13. The Texans finished third in the Lone Star Conference with a mark of 10-8, but won the LSC Championship Tournament and earned the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division II South Central Regional.
• The Texans defeated Eastern New Mexico 72-59 in the first round of the LSC Tournament before downing West Texas A&M 66-48 in the semifinal round. Tarleton then defeated Midwestern State 53-50 in the finals to claim its second-ever LSC Tournament Championship.
• Tarleton earned the No. 8 seed in the South Central Regional and went on to face No. 1 seed and tournament host Metro State. Tarleton's
Chuck Guy poured in a career-high 29 points against the Roadrunners, but it was not enough as Metro State won the contest 76-65.

SERIES WITH SWAU
Tarleton has won all three contests against Southwestern Adventist in a series that began in 1995.
The Texans won the first-ever meeting, 112-46, back on Nov. 22, 1995 in Stephenville. Tarleton won the last meeting between the two teams, 112-46, which was played back on Dec. 4, 2001 inside Wisdom Gym. Tarleton won 89-49 in the only other game that has been played in series, back on Dec. 2, 2000. That game was played in Stephenville as well.
TEXANS IN OPENERS
The Texans are 21-4 overall in season-openers under head coach
Lonn Reisman. Tarleton had won 10 straight season-opening contests before falling to Southwestern Assemblies of God, 73-60, in last season's opener.
Saturday's contest marks the first season-opener against the Knights, but it is the second time that the Texans have opened up the home schedule against SWAU. Tarleton won the previous home-opener against the Knights, 112-46, back on Nov. 22, 1995.
TEXANS PICKED TO WIN LSC
Tarleton State was picked as the preseason favorite to win the Lone Star Conference according to voting opinions of LSC head coaches and sports information directors, plus various media representatives from throughout the region.

The Texans received nine of 23 possible first-place votes for a total of 166 points to garner first-place nods ahead of Midwestern State, who tallied 12 first-place votes for a total of 163 points. The Mustangs won last season's regular-season championship with a 14-4 league record, but the Texans won the LSC Tournament Title and the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Playoffs.

Cameron was tabbed No. 3 in the preseason poll with two first-place votes and a total of 124 points. Additionally, CU's Craig Foster was named the Preseason Player of the Year after earning 12 of the 23 votes. Tarleton's
Chuck Guy received nine votes, while two other players split the remaining votes.

West Texas A&M (118) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (82) rounded out the top five spots in the poll, respectively, while Eastern New Mexico (63), Angelo State (59) and A&M-Commerce followed.
RETURNING TEXANS
The Texans return five starters from last season's 20-10 squad, which includes

Chuck Guy (G, Sr., Fort Worth, Texas),
Coleman Furst (G, Sr., Denison, Texas),
Davene Carter (F, Jr., Duncanville, Texas) and
Damion Clemons (F, Jr., Dallas, Texas).

Head coach
Lonn Reisman welcomes five players to the 2013-14 squad, which includes three junior college transfers and a pair of incoming freshmen.
Transfer players added to the roster include
Emmanuel Andrews (G, Jr., Detroit, Mich.),
Mohammad Lee (G, Jr., Bronx, N.Y.) and
Tashawn Mabry (F, Jr., Rocky Mount, N.C.).
Incoming freshmen for the Texans this season include Tre Ewell (G, Fr., Brock, Texas) and
Sawyer Kipp (F, Fr., Plano, Texas).
UP NEXT FOR THE TEXANS
Tarleton State will return to action on Friday, Nov. 15, as the Texans host St. Edward's in the first game of the 2013 Texan Tip-Off Classic. The Texans will then host Bloomfield (N.J.) to wrap-up the annual event.
Tarleton and St. Edward's will meet for the 47th time in the series, but the first time since Dec. 18, 2008. The Texans will face Bloomfield for the first ever meeting between the two teams.
