Tarleton State Men’s Basketball announces addition of former McDonald’s All-American nominee and junior college transfer Ethan Carter

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State Men's basketball head coach Eric Haut announced the addition of Northeastern Junior College Ethan Carter on Tuesday.
 
Haut makes his eighth transfer signing in his first season with the Texans. Carter is the second transfer signee from junior college, joining Adrian Shackleton. The duo heads to Stephenville alongside Division I transfers Isaac Harrell, Caleb Blackwell, Jac Mani, JaVar Daniel and Franck Emmou. The transfer class is also joined by returners Matyas Vrabel, Kade Douglas and Leroy Kelly IV.

"Ethan is an explosive, high-level athlete who brings toughness, versatility, and a relentless competitive spirit that will have an immediate impact on our program. Ethan is a high character young man, tireless worker, and a great student. His parents, Martina and Myron, have done an outstanding job molding him into the person and player he has become. Please welcome Ethan and his family to our Texan Family!"
 
Carter enjoyed a decorated prep career which included a state championship as a freshman and a regional title as a senior. He was named a McDonald's All-American East nominee as well as First Team All-Region. In his first collegiate season, he was tabbed Region IX Player of the Year.
 
"I chose Tarleton State because I felt that the coaching staff really believed in me and had an emphasis on development," said Carter. "I want to always improve and be pushed, so I thought it was a perfect fit for me and my future. I'm excited to get to work and compete for championships."
 
He spent his first collegiate season at Northeastern Junior College, he averaged 15.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest. He also tallied 24 assists, 21 steals and 16 blocks. He was tabbed the Region IX Player of the Year as a freshman and earned a selection to the All-Conference First Team. He was a two-time NJCAA Region 9 Player of the Week. He scored in double figures in 23 games notching five double-doubles. Carter tallied nine games with at least 20+ points including a pair of career-high 26-point performances against Casper (1/8) and Lamar CC (2/15).
 
Carter started his prep career in eighth grade at the varsity level for Arlington Christian. He spent three seasons playing for the Eagles before heading to Langston Hughes High School for his senior season. While at Arlington Christian, he helped the squad to a 67-24 record. As a freshman he helped the Eagles win the state championship. Arlington Christian posted a 27-8 overall record and went a perfect 9-0 in region play. He spent his senior year at Langston Hughes High School. He helped the Panthers to a 25-8 record and a region championship. The Panthers reached the final four of the state tournament. As a senior, he was tabbed a McDonald's All-American East Nominee as well as a First Team All-Region and Defensive Player of the Year. He ended his prep career totaling over 1000 career points and was a three-star prospect according to 247 Sports.
 
He is the son of Martina and Myron and has four siblings. As a freshman at Northeastern, he majored in business. He was a member of Beta Club in high school.
 
Tarleton State will continue to announce its roster signees and its 2026-27 schedule at a later date.
