Baseball drops pair of games at Southeastern Oklahoma

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DURANT, Okla. – The Tarleton baseball team's three-game win streak came to an end on Tuesday after dropping both games of a non-conference doubleheader against Southeastern Oklahoma. The Texans fell 6-2 in game one and then were defeated 6-3 in the final game played at The Ballpark in Durant.

Alvaro Moreno went 2-for-4 and knocked in a run for the Texans in game one, but it wasn't enough as the Savage Storm jumped out to a 3-0 run after two innings and then led 6-0 in the seventh inning before Tarleton put up its first run.

The Texans began a rally in the seventh when Luke Slentz led off the inning with a single up the middle. He later scored when Ryan Small reached base on a throwing error from the shortstop. Nico Moran, who also went 2-for-4 on the day, singled and scored on Moreno's infield hit.

Tarleton's late-game rally came up short though after SOSU's pitching change when Colten Boothe lined into a double play to end the game.

Garrett Kelly (0-2) took the loss in game one, giving up three runs on seven hits in 2.0 innings of work. SOSU's David Cagle (1-0) did not allow a run in his 4.2 innings of work on his way to picking up the win. He yielded just four hits, walked a pair of batters and struck out six.

SOSU's Cameron Mann picked up his third save of the season as he reentered the game to record the final two outs.

Moreno drove in his second run of the day in game two as Tarleton took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning with his RBI-single that scored Noah Ringenberger on the play.

Tarleton added to its lead in the top of the fourth inning when Moran drove in a run with his single to right field and later scored on a balk, making it a 3-0 game.

Troyal Yosko (2-1) allowed just one hit and struck out two batters in his first four innings of work, but he then gave up a pair of hits, walked a batter and hit a batter as the Savage Storm rallied in the bottom half of the fifth inning to score all six of its runs in the game.

Yosko's line finished with him giving up four runs on three hits as he was saddled with his first loss of the season.

SOSU's Eddie Cervantes (3-0) picked up the win working 2.2 innings in relief of starter Canyon Conley. Mann worked the final inning of the game for his second save of the day and fourth of the season.

The Texans continue its seven-game road swing with four games in Abilene this weekend at the Whitten Inn Classic, hosted by Abilene Christian. Tarleton will play three Lone Star Conference teams (ACU, Cameron, Eastern New Mexico) this weekend before closing out the weekend against Bellarmine on Sunday. Games played against the LSC teams will not count in conference standings.

Tarleton and ACU will kick things off on Thursday, Feb. 28. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Crutcher Scott Field in Abilene.
