Game 1: Tarleton 3, Fort Lewis 0
The momentum of a first-set thriller carried Tarleton to its second sweep of the season Friday afternoon as the TexAnns wasted no-time making their presence known at the Oredigger Classic, dispatching of the Skyhawks in straight sets.
Tarleton fell in a quick 0-3 hole, which eventually stretched to a 4-7 deficit before the comeback effort began. The TexAnns scored six of the next seven points to turn the game around and take a 10-8 lead.
After Fort Lewis scored two straight to tie the score at 10-10, the teams stayed even for the rest of the contest –with neither team leading by more than two points and playing in a tie 10 more times through 24-24.
Stacie Murrah landed a kill shot and assisted with
Jasmyne Brown on a set-winning block to break the tie and give the first set to the TexAnns 26-24.
In the second set, both teams continued their neck-and-neck play by opening the game in a 10-10 deadlock. A kill shot by
Kaitlyn White, however, proved to be the turning point for Tarleton.
The junior transfer's kill gave the TexAnns an 11-10 lead and then she served up five straight points on the strength of two Murrah kills, two Fort Lewis errors and a service ace to break the score wide open and give Tarleton its biggest lead of the match at 16-10.
Fort Lewis cut the deficit to five on several different occasions with the last one coming at 20-15 before a
Jasmyne Brown kill started a 5-1 TexAnn run down the stretch to seal the set. Of the final five points, Tarleton got kills from Brown, White and Murrah as well as a Fort Lewis error and a set-ending ace by White.
Tarleton dominated the final set from the get-go, jumping out to an early 9-3 lead which was immediately followed up by a 9-3 TexAnn run to stretch the lead to 18-6. Tarleton finished off the Skyhawks quickly by scoring seven of the final 12 points to clinch the sweep.

Game 2: Tarleton 3, Western Oregon 2
Personal records fell by the bunches in the nightcap of Friday's volleyball doubleheader as Murrah, Barker and Klein all had career nights en route to an epic five-set thrilling victory over the Western Oregon Wolves.
In the first set, Tarleton and Western Oregon were deadlocked in an even contest with no team leading by more than three. Western Oregon went up 23-20 after a 4-1 Wolves run broke a 19-19 tie.
Tarleton brought the score back even at 23-23 following back-to-back Wolves errors and an
Emily Klein service ace. After trading the next two points, Tarleton took a 25-24 lead after a
Jazmine Green kill, but Western Oregon scored the next three straight points to claim a hard-fought first set.
After jumping out to an early 3-0 lead in the second set, Tarleton squandered its early advantage and were forced to play catch up from a late seven-point deficit.
Trailing 18-11, Tarleton struck for a 10-1 run to turn the tables on the Wolves and take a 21-19 lead.
The Wolves evened the score and kept it tied down the stretch, as late as 24-24, but back-to-back kills from White and Murrah off passes from Barker secured the second set victory for the TexAnns and capped off an epic comeback to force a pivotal third set.
In the third set, Tarleton built a 17-13 before Western Oregon answered with a 12-6 run down the stretch to take control of the series with a 2-1 advantage headed into the fourth game.
Murrah once again sparked the TexAnns in the fourth set to start a 10-3 run down the stretch to force a game five. In a 15-15 tie, Murrah reeled off back-to-back kills to start the run. She added two more kills down the stretch to join a pair of kills from
Katie Covell and a pair from Umbel to secure the fourth set win.
In the final set, it was Murrah coming up big for the TexAnns again.
The senior outside hitter landed the first four kills for Tarleton to keep the score tied before a Covell kill put Tarleton on top 5-4. Tarleton lost the lead briefly but regained it quickly with three straight points on a Wolves error and kills from Murrah and Umbel to make it 9-7.
Tarleton refused to relinquish the lead despite Western Oregon bringing the game to an 11-11 tie, forcing a TexAnn timeout. Out of the break, the teams traded points and kept the score tied through 15-15 until Covell landed a kill and Umbel ended the game with a game-ending block.
Murrah's career night highlighted the TexAnns as she finished the match with 26 kills on 66 attempts for a .273 hitting percentage. She also added nine digs, which were just two away from tying a career high.
