#3 Texans to Host Chaps, Honor Seniors on Tuesday

STEPHENVILLE - The No. 3-ranked Tarleton State Texans (23-1, 12-1 LSC) will host the Lubbock Christian Chaps (15-7, 10-6 HLC) this Tuesday, Feb. 25, for the final home game of the regular-season. Tip-off between the two teams is set for 7 p.m. inside Wisdom Gym in Stephenville.

Tarleton will also honor five players before tip-off, as part of Texan Basketball Senior Night. The five senior players that are slated to earn recognition on tuesday will be Chuck Guy, De'Andre Upchurch, Jon Cathey-Macklin, Coleman Furst and Davin Riebock.

The Texans, who clinched at least a share of the Lone Star Conference title in Portales, N.M., on Saturday, have won five consecutive games since dropping its first and only loss of the season back on Feb. 5. Tarleton can earn no-less than the No. 2 seed in the upcoming LSC Championship Tournament, that will take place Wednesday through Saturday, Mar. 5-8, at the Allen Event Center.

The Chaps are coming off a 99-84 home loss to Texas-Permian Basin this past Saturday, but prior to the loss, LCU had won seven-consecutive games dating back to Jan. 25. During that span, the Chaps picked up wins against top teams within the South Central Region, including Arkansas-Fort Smith, Texas A&M International and St. Mary's.

LCU is currently a provisional member of the Heartland Conference after joining the ranks in the summer of 2013. The Chaps are not eligable for post-season play for the next two years, but the contest would still count as an in-region game for the Texans.

The Texans are coming off a 92-82 conference win over Eastern New Mexico on Saturday, in a game that was highlighted by Upchurch's double-double that included the senior scoring a career-high 38 points. His 38-point effort is the first 30-point game from a Texan player since John Davis recorded 34 points against Angleo State back on Jan. 31, 2007. It was the highest-scoring indiviual effort in more than 13 years as well, behind Brandon Burney's 50-point game against Abilene Christian back on Feb. 1, 2001.

Guy had a very good outing for the Texans as well, scoring 24 points and dishing out four assists in the 10-point road win. Guy and Upchurch accounted for more than 67 percent of Tarleton's scoring on Saturday as both players combined to shoot 51 percent from the field, 73 percent from downtown and 95 percent from the charity stripe.

Upchurch led the squad with his career-high 10 rebounds and the Texans managed to out-rebound the Greyhounds 39-31 in the contest.

Tuesday's contest will mark the 23rd contest between the two shcools, but it will just be the third time that a Texan team has faced LCU in the Lonn Reisman era. The Chaps lead the all-time series 15-7, but Tarleton is 2-0 when facing LCU with Reisman at the helm. The Texans and Chaps have not faced each other since Nov. 14, 1997, when Tarleton downed LCU 65-62 in Stephenville. The Texans won the first meetin under Reisman, 61-58, which was also played in Stephenville.
