Six hit NCAA marks, school Hammer records fall in Tarleton’s trip to ACU Invitational

ABILENE –
Both the men's and women's school record for the Hammer Throw was broken Saturday as the Tarleton track and field teams combined for 22 top-eight finishes, six NCAA provisional marks and two wins at the Wes Kittley Invitational.
 
Jumps and Throws
 
Kenny Odunaiya broke his own record in the men's hammer while Brianna Johnson ended Beth Wells' 14-year run as the school record holder in the women's hammer to highlight a strong showing for the field athletes Saturday.
 
Odunaiya launched the hammer 165' 6'' en route to a seventh-place finish while Johnson threw her hammer 153' 4'' for a sixth place finish on their record-breaking afternoon.
 
Meanwhile, Davene Carter earned one of the Tarleton marks and victories with a season-best performance in the men's high jump with a leap of 2.08m (6' 9.75'').
 
Rounding out the Tarleton top-eight performers – which would have received team points had this event been a team-scoring meet – were Odunaiya in the shot put with a throw of 15.93m (52' 3.25'') in fourth place, Travis Allison in the high jump with a fourth-place leap of 1.98m (6' 6''), Marissa Westbrook in the women's shot put with a throw of 12.91m (42' 4.25'') and Nikki McNorton in the high jump with a fourth-place leap of 1.61m (5' 3.25'').
 
Distance and Relays
 
In the distance and relay events, the Tarleton teams combined for 12 top-eight finishes, a victory and two NCAA provisional marks by athletes who have already marked this season.
 
In the men's 800m, Chase Rathke marked with a time of 1:51.21 for a fourth-place finish while the men's mile relay A squad marked with a time of 3:10.61 for a third place finish. The mile relay team that marked was just 0.37 seconds off the Tarleton school record.
 
On the women's side, Katelin Huckabee highlighted the day by winning the 5000m run with a time of 18:50.59.
 
Rounding out top-eight finishers for the women were Aly Coughlin in her first 800m run with a sixth-place time of 2:19.75, Lindsey Hinton in the 1500m with a third-place time of 4:39.96, Tylo Farrar in the 1500m with an eighth-place time of 4:55.94, Lauren Finley in the 5K with a fifth-place time of 20:22.74 and the mile relay team with a fifth-place time of 3:51.34.
 
The men's top-eight finishers behind the NCAA marks of Rathke and the Mile Relay included Dylan Willett in the 1500m run with a seventh-place time of 4:06.03, Luke Scribner in the 10,000 with a third-place time of 34:28.12 and the B squad of the mile relay in 3:15.82.
 
Sprints and Hurdles
 
Tarleton had three provisional marks in the sprint and hurdle events, including one in each of the men's and women's short hurdle races, as part of the four total top-eight finishes for the Texans and TexAnns in the events.
 
Cameron Krc hit his first NCAA mark of the season by running a 47.72 in the 400m en route to an eighth-place finish while Kadlacek and McNorton added to their season mark totals in the 110m and 100m hurdles, respectively.
 
Kadlacek ran a 14.63 in the 110's while McNorton ran a season-best 14.07 en oure to a sixth-place finish in the 100's. Kadlacek recorded the only other top-eight finish in the sprints and hurdles with an eighth-place run of 55.26 in the 400m hurdles.
 
Tarleton State will head to Texas A&M-Commerce next weekend for the regular season finale at the Lion Invitational.
