TexAnns fall in three at West Texas A&M

The Tarleton TexAnns dropped their third match of the season Friday night, but will take their 10-3 record to Portales, NM tomorrow night for a 7 p.m. match against Eastern New Mexico.
Box Score CANYON – Tarleton State fell to 10-3 for the season and 4-2 in Lone Star Conference play Friday night when the TexAnns were swept by West Texas A&M in The Box.

The TexAnns, who opened the match in complete control over the first 28 points, couldn't overcome a late first-set surge and the momentum that shifted over to the Lady Buffs with the run en route to Tarleton's third loss of the season.

Kaitlyn White got the scoring started for the TexAnns with the first point of the match on a kill from Emily Medlin. The game-opening kill from White started a 9-5 run for the TexAnns to give them an early lead and force West Texas A&M to burn a timeout.

Out of the break, Tarleton maintained its lead through 16-12 but a TexAnn attack error that made it 13-16 and turned the serve back to West Texas A&M shifted the momentum as the Lady Buffs scored five straight points – three on blocks – to take an 18-16 lead.

Tarleton pulled within one at 22-21 but West Texas A&M got three straight points on a kill and two Tarleton miscues to steal the opening set away from the TexAnns.

West Texas A&M carried the momentum into set two and led from the get-go en route to a 25-12 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.

Despite falling behind by as much as 22-13, the TexAnns fought hard to the end by going on a 7-2 run down the stretch to pull within 20-24 before a bad set ended the game 25-20 and the match 3-0.

Tarleton didn't have a single player with double-figure kills for the match. Hailey Roberts had a team-high seven kills while Kelsey Raglin and Ashley Rine each had four. Emily Medlin had a team-high 13 assists while Ayssa Garcia led the team with eight digs.

The TexAnns will have a chance to shake off the loss with a quick turnaround when they head over to Eastern New Mexico for a 7 p.m. game tomorrow night against the Zias.
