LAST TIME OUT
Tarleton State started the season off strong with three wins in four games over regional opponents. The TexAnns opened the season Friday afternoon with a sweep of Arkansas-Fort Smith and Western New Mexico, who were both ranked in the regional polls last season. After a loss in game three, Tarleton rebounded against Arkansas-Monticello by capping off a thrilling comeback to beat the Cotton Blossoms in five.
TARLETON vs TEXAS WESLEYAN
This is the 16
th all-time meeting between the TexAnns and Lady Rams, dating back to the original meeting in 1985. Texas Wesleyan holds a 9-6 lead in the all-time series, but Tarleton has dominated since the turn of the century. Tarleton has won six of the seven meetings since 2000 with four of the wins coming courtesy of a sweep. Tarleton is 3-4 all-time against Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth.
TARLETON vs TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE
Tuesday's game will be the 32
nd all-time between the TexAnns and Lions since the inaugural meeting in 1984. Commerce holds a 17-14 edge over the TexAnns in the all-time series, but Tarleton does hold the series advantage (8-4) in games at Wisdom Gym. Since 2006, Tarleton is 9-4 against the Lions.
ALL-TOURNAMENT SELECTIONS
Senior
Katie Covell and
Hailey Roberts were named to the all-tournament team at the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational Tournament in San Angelo last weekend. Roberts, a true freshman from Cedar Park, led the team with 71 kills in four games, while Covell, a senior from Lytle, recorded 109 digs including a career-high 32 digs against Missouri Southern to go along with 22 kills for the weekend.
COVELL TOPS 1,000 DIGS
Senior
Katie Covell recorded 26 digs in the tournament opener against Arkansas-Fort Smith to give her 1,000 in her Tarleton career. She became just the ninth TexAnn in school history to amass over 1,000 career digs. She enters Monday's game with 1,083 which is sixth all-time and puts her at sixth on the all-time Tarleton list ahead of Jessie Hartman (1,065), Lacey Adkisson (1,052),
Danielle Barker (1,008) and Pam Lewin (989). She is 36 digs behind Missy Castro for fifth all-time.
UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
The TexAnns will head north for three games this weekend. Tarleton will be in Wichita Falls Friday night for two games, a 6 p.m. match against LSC rival Midwestern State and an 8 p.m. non-conference match against Harding. They will turn around Saturday and cross the Red River to a 2 p.m. visit to Cameron.
