Day Two Recap: LSC Championships

Best and Westbrook score five points each to give the Texans and TexAnns fifth and eighth-place finishes, respectively

LUBBOCK – Competing as the lone Texan and TexAnn, juniors Peyton Best and Marissa Westbrook wrapped up competition in the Lone Star Conference indoor track and field championships at "The Bubble" Sunday afternoon.

Starting off the day for the Texans was Peyton Best in the men's heptathlon. Best finished the second half of the heptathlon with times of 8.25 in the 55-meter hurdles, 2:52.23 in the 1000-meters and a mark of 3.51m (11-06.25) in the pole vault to finish with a new school record of 4640 total points.

The junior from Salado broke his own school record by 17 points to finish fourth giving the Texans a meet total of five points to finish fifth. Best's 4640 is also a NCAA provisional mark, currently No. 37 in the nation.

Marissa Westbrook would finish up the day for Tarleton competing in the women's shot put.

Westbrook, with a toss of 12.61m (41-04.50), finished fourth scoring five points in the finals. The five points scored by Westbrook would give the TexAnns an eighth-place finish for the meet.

Tarleton will open up the 2015 outdoor season Thursday from the Oscar Frazier Track as Tarleton host the Tarleton Invitational.
