STEPHENVILLE – Former Tarleton baseball head coach and Tarleton Athletics Hall of Famer Jack Allen passed away Saturday morning.

Lonn Reisman. "He made such a difference in the life of everyone he came into contact with and made this world and Tarleton State University a better place because he was a part of it. He will be missed."

Allen managed the Texans from 1990-2002. Under Allen's 13 years of leadership, the Texans won a school-record 418 games, won two Lone Star Conference South Division titles, and two outright conference championships. His teams also won a Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association championships, one NAIA District 8 crown, and qualified for the school's first NCAA South Central Regional Tournament in 1998. The former Texan skipper garnered LSC South Division Coach of the Year honors in 1998. He earned the honor again in 1999. Allen was named the NAIA District 8 and Area II Coach of the Year in 1992 after leading the team to back-to-back 40-win seasons.

During his time at Tarleton, Allen coached 29 first-team All-LSC players and seven All-Americans. He earned his 300
th win at Tarleton with a 3-2 decision over Texas A&M-Kingsville that put Tarleton in the 1998 LSC Championship game. Allen led Tarleton to nine 30-win seasons and had a winning record in 12 of his 13 years.

While coaching at Ranger Junior College, Allen put together an 814-399 record in 23 seasons and tallied nine conference championships, seven regional championships and four state championships. He coached the program to national championships in 1973 and 1978.

Allen was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame prior to the 2000 season. Allen retired from coaching in 2002 and was inducted into the Tarleton Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009.
