STEPHENVILLE – Just over a month after being announced as the next head coach of the Tarleton Baseball program,
Mike Sirianni has resigned his post to accept a position on the coaching staff at Division I Wichita State University.
"We have started a new search for a head baseball coach after Mike (Sirianni) resigned his position earlier this week," said athletic director
Lonn Reisman. "We understand and respect Mike's decision. This was an opportunity he didn't seek out but couldn't turn down and we wish he and his family the best of luck. It's unfortunate that we're going through this process again, but we obviously found a high-quality coach with the last search and we're confident we can once again bring in a good coach to lead our program."
Sirianni was announced as the head coach at a press conference on May 23 after spending the last three seasons as the skipper for Regis University in Denver, Colorado.
He took over the reins of a program that was 21 games under .500 over the previous three seasons combined (60-81) and made an immediate impact by leading the Rangers to 26 victories in his debut season. Over the next two seasons, Sirianni added 47 more victories to his ledger. In 2018, the Rangers recorded their first winning season in five years with Sirianni at the helm.
Prior to his time at Regis, Sirianni spent three seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at Wichita State where he assisted with the offense and recruited to the No. 2 and 18 recruiting classes according to Collegiate Baseball News. His new position will be a full-time one.
