STEPHENVILLE – In this installment of This Week in Tarleton Athletics History, we look back at Tarleton Football's record-setting offensive performance against Ouachita Baptist in 1994, Hailey Roberts sets the single-match record for kills and Cross Country had a pair of top two finishes.
Tarleton Football hosted Ouachita Baptist back on Sept. 24, 1994 and the offensive performances by quarterback Kevin Vickers and wide receiver Colin Yocom still hold in the Texan record book to this day. Vickers threw for 435 yards on just 22 completions and ran for 42 yards for 477 total yards. Vickers' 435 passing yards and 477 total yards were a school record at the time and since rank fifth and second, respectively, in school history. Yocum was the top threat for Vickers that game, hauling in a then-school record 234 receiving yards on nine receptions.
On Sept. 22, 2015, Tarleton Volleyball traveled to Texas Woman's in Denton and sophomore outside hitter Hailey Roberts was already establishing records that no player in program history came near. Roberts set a school record with 37 kills in a four-set road win over the Pioneers. The four-time All-American would go on to match her record with 37 kills a year later as a junior and holds the school record for kills in a career with 2,389.
Tarleton Cross Country had a notable season-opening meet back on Sept. 23, 2013 at the WT Stampede in Canyon. The men finished second overall with 63 total points, led by a second-place finish by Tye Doty with a time of 26:11. Miles Joslin also had a top-10 finish, placing seventh (26:31). On the women's side, the TexAnns finished fourth and Aly Coughlin placed second individually (23:02) to lead the team.
