The early season traveling Tarleton tennis team is on the road once again this week, set to play two matches in Nashville on Friday-Saturday.
Â
First, they'll be at Lipscomb on Friday at 1 p.m. CT, followed by a match against Belmont at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday.
Â
The Texans have started the 2022 spring campaign 1-2, but have played well in all three matches, taking on two top-20 ranked teams on the road.
Â
Most recently, the Texans were in Norman facing off against the No. 18 Oklahoma Sooners. Tarleton's No. 1 position player
Deniza Marcinkevica had the best performance, playing Carmen Corley tight to start, the No. 105 ranked player in NCAA Division I. The two were tied at 3-3 in the first set before Corley took over from there, winning 6-3, 6-1.
Â
Head coach
Elianne Douglas-Miron tweaked the lineup for the match, inserting
Anna Davidson at the No. 6 spot in singles, and pairing
Martha Makantasi with
Natalia Komar in doubles at No. 2, with
Elsa Boisson and
Celia Vaudiau together at No. 3.
Â
Tarleton's top pair in Marcinkevica and
Jemi Aguilar are 1-0 so far through three matches, having unfinished matches against Texas A&M and Oklahoma due to the doubles point already being clinched in each instance.
Â
Looking ahead to the next two days, this will be Lipcomb's first match of the spring, last playing at the ITA Regionals in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on Oct. 21-25. Last season, the Bison went 10-9 overall, winners of three of their last four matches. They matched up with Belmont themselves early in the year, winning 5-2.
Â
Belmont is 2-0 thus far with home wins over Middle Tennessee and Lee, 5-1 and 6-1 wins, respectively. Gina Feistel and Somer Henry both played in the No. 1 position in each match, both chalking up the lone losses in singles for the Bruins. Feistel and Henry each won their match in the No. 2 spot, with Abi Solomon owning a 2-0 record in position No. 3.
Â
After the Nashville trip, the Texans will have three more road matches before finally playing one at the Potishman-Lard Tennis Courts. It will be a three-match-in-three-days stretch from Friday through Sunday at Tyler Junior College, Louisiana Tech and Grambling State. After that, Tarleton will play four straight matches in Stephenville from Feb. 11-20.
