TARLETON MEN'S BASKETBALL was exhilarating to watch at the U.S. Virgin Islands, as they made it to the Paradise Jam Championship Game and narrowly fell to Drake, 71-64. The Texans went 2-1 at the tournament and recorded their first victory over a Power Five program when they dominated Boston College. Freddy Hicks added another impressive performance in the championship game, as he finished with 30 points, nine rebounds and two steals. Hicks was recognized all around for his play in the tournament, as he was named the WAC Player of the Week and then made the Paradise Jam 2022 Men's All-Tournament Team later in the day. Drake got off to a hot start early, but the Texans never panicked and stuck to their game plan. With just over seven minutes left in the game, Tarleton tied the Bulldogs at 51 apiece. They responded well to the Texans coming back, as they took control back and won the game by seven. Tarleton was back to work short after that, as they headed to Wichita, Kansas, to take on Wichita State. The game started great for the Texans, as Shamir Bogues recovered the tip-off and scored a layup in just three seconds. They did not lead the Shockers much after that, as the Texans fell 83-71. Jakorie Smith led the Texans offensively with 19 points, while Hicks (14) and Lue Williams (14) also finished with double-digit scoring. The Texans return to Wisdom Gym on Tuesday at 7 p.m. to take on Weber State. This will be a White Out game with 500 free t-shirts given out, as fans will be required to have a white top on to sit in the lower level GA. Tarleton will remain at home the rest of the week, as they play Wiley College on Saturday at 2 p.m. They will head be back on the road for their next game, as they will head to Waco to compete against Baylor on Dec. 6.Â

TEXAN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL gave Nebraska a scare last week, as they only trailed by five entering the fourth quarter. This would have been the Texans' first Power Five win in program history. The Cornhuskers started off hot with a 6-0 lead, but Viktoria Ivanova buried two triples to tie things up early. Nebraska would go on big runs of their own, but the Texans would always find a way to climb back into things, trailing by only seven at halftime. Nebraska seemed to have things figured out at the start of the second half, but the Texans went on a run of their own to limit the Huskers' lead to single digits. With a competitive attitude the Texans had, they would have fought back all night, but Nebraska drowned out the remaining minutes on the clock with a 16-4 run to end things and take the game 71-53. A star began to shine in Lincoln, as Teresa Da Silva scored a career-high 24 points on the night and was a leading cause to the comebacks the Texans would have. Da Silva also added team-highs in assists (five) and steals (two). The Texans defense was getting under Nebraska's skin as well, as they forced 21 turnovers on the night. Tarleton will be back on the road this Wednesday, as they head up to Western Illinois to take on the Leathernecks at 5 p.m. The Texans will be back in Wisdom Gym on Dec. 6 to take on Weber State for an Ugly Christmas Sweater Theme Night.Â
