WEEK AT A GLANCE: WBB to host Teddy Bear Toss at halftime, Air Force brings MBB to Colorado

Texan Women's Basketball looks to stay undefeated at home while allowing fans to test their accuracy with a Teddy Bear Toss during halftime.

Women's Basketball hosts their final home nonconference game against Northwestern State on Wednesday. Fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal to toss onto the court at halftime into a box or on the Tarleton logo to win a prize. If you do not have a stuffed animal on hand to donate, no problem, as there is a ticket package available through Monday at 5 p.m. to purchase your ticket and teddy bear to toss and donate to local child advocacy centers. Tarleton Men's Basketball has the week to prepare for the last of their three-game road trip at Air Force on Sunday.

TEXAN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL went 1-1 last week, beginning with a commanding 86-69 win over Weber State in Wisdom Gym. The Texans' hot shooting from deep continued, as they hit 12 shots from beyond the arc. All 12 threes were courtesy of Teresa Da Silva (5-of-8), Tyler Jackson (4-of-5) and Jenna Dick (3-of-4). Da Silva was sensational for Tarleton, recording 31 points, nine rebounds, six assists, three steals and a block. This was the first 30+ point game by a Texan in their NCAA Division I era. The other double-digit scorers for the Texans was Jackson (16), Mayra Caicedo (13) and Dick (11). Tarleton's three-point barrage and turnover difference helped give the Texans a nice cushion for a majority of the game, as they forced 24 turnovers with 13 steals. A long trip to Cheney, Washington, wore on the Texans later in the week, as they fell to Eastern Washington 65-45. Jackson and Nyajah Mitchels led the team with nine-points each. The Texans return to Wisdom Gym on Wednesday to take on Northwestern State at 6 p.m. and look to cap off an undefeated nonconference home record. There will be a "Teddy Bear Toss" at the game, where fans are encouraged to throw a stuffed animal on the basketball court at halftime in order to win a prize, in turn creating an iconic scene of a court full of stuffed animals that will all be donated to local child advocacy centers. Tarleton's next games will come in San Juan, Puerto Rico, as the Texans will compete against Ball State on Dec. 19 and Richmond on Dec. 21 in the Puerto Rico Clasico.

TARLETON MEN'S BASKETBALL came up short against some big names last week. They began in Waco to take on No. 12 ranked Baylor and fought until the final buzzer, but falling 80-57. The game had nine different lead changes early, with Shakur Daniel energizing the team with a steal that led to the first bucket of the game. Daniel finished with 13 points while Tiger Booker also helped keep the Texans' tempo high with 11 points. Tarleton started off hot in Orlando, outshooting UCF in the first half, but a dry spell in the second resulted in a 75-49 loss to the Knights. The Texans shocked the crowd early with a 15-3 run to gain a five point lead with just under six minutes to go in the first half, going back and forth with UCF and trailing them by three at the intermission. Daniel was the only double-digit scorer for the Texans, finishing with a season-high 15 points. Tarleton's next game will be up north in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to take on Air Force at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday for their last of three-straight road games. The Texans' next home game will not be until Dec. 21 when they take on Huston-Tillotson to try and remain undefeated in Wisdom Gym prior to conference play beginning.

TARLETON TRACK & FIELD traveled with a smaller crew than usual for their first indoor meet of the season at the Crimson & Gold Invitational hosted by Pittsburg State. That did not slow the Texans down from breaking records and showing extremely well to jumpstart Tarleton's 2023 season. Two student-athletes broke indoor school records while one tied a record. On the women's side, junior Bonnie Clifton broke the indoor school record in the weight throw, throwing 15.72m (51'7") and placing sixth in the women's weight throw. Freshman Jordan Rae finished in first place in the women's high jump after a 1.72m (5'7 ¾") jump that tied her for first place all-time for the indoor jump at Tarleton. For the men, freshman Gabriele Tosti broke the indoor school record for triple jump, jumping 14.84m (48' 8 ¼") and earning first place honors at the meet. The Texans will rest up heading into the holiday break, as their next indoor meet will not be until Jan. 13-14 in Lubbock as Texas Tech hosts the Corky Classic.
