Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Texans start off strong, go cold in loss to Seattle U on the road

SEATTLE – The Texans began Thursday's game in Seattle, Washington, neck-and-neck with the Redhawks, but several scoring droughts in the second half resulted in a 67-47 loss to a Seattle U team that has not lost a game at home this season.

Both the Texans and the Redhawks are the only remaining teams in the WAC to be undefeated at home this season.

Tarleton (10-9, 3-3 WAC) was first on the scoreboard courtesy of Freddy Hicks, who made his return to the court after suffering an injury against Baylor 10 games prior. Seattle U (15-4, 6-0 WAC) was quick to respond scoring their first of several three shots from beyond the arc in the first 10 minutes of play.

With just over eight minutes left in the first half, the Texans regained a one-point lead off an and-one play from Shamir Bogues.

Tarleton and Seattle U traded buckets back-and-forth resulting in four lead changes over the final seven minutes of the first half. Going into the locker room, the Redhawks held a slight lead over the Texans at 24-22.

Tarleton's swarming defense caused havoc for Seattle U offensively in the first half. They held the Redhawks to 10-of-27 (.370) shooting from the field and yielded no free throws.

The second half proved to be a different story for the Texans, and they were unable to regain the lead. Tarleton couldn't get their shots to fall as Seattle U extended their lead to nine over a six-minute scoring drought by the Texans.

With eight minutes gone in the second half, Bogues' drive in the paint ended the Texans' dry spell. Nine unanswered point from the Redhawks, and Texan foul trouble, resulted in a 16-point lead halfway through the second half.

The Texans put together a small run before the Redhawks put a stamp on the game to remain undefeated in WAC play at 67-47.

Tarleton was led in scoring by Lue Williams and Hicks. Williams picked up 14 points (6-12 FG) and eight defensive boards. Hicks, the Fireside District Player of the Game, also scored 14 points while picking up six rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Bogues earned eight points and four rebounds. Freshman Lajae Jones entered the game late, picking up four points.

Shakur Daniel and Coreyoun Rushin each scored three points while Daniel also grabbed three boards and two assists.

Tarleton will quickly learn from this game and prepare for the next one as they take on California Baptist in Riverside, California, on Saturday. The Texans will look for payback against the Lancers for last year's matchup in Stephenville, Texas, where California Baptist narrowly escaped with a victory. Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. CT and fans can listen in on KTRL 90.5 FM.
