Texans have tough back-to-back set at UTSA and Texas State Friday-Saturday

SAN ANTONIO – Riding a two-match winning streak, Tarleton will have a tough weekend, playing at UTSA and at Texas State.

On Friday at 2 p.m. CT, the Texans will match up with the Roadrunners at UTSA Tennis Center. Then on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT, they'll be in San Marcos, Texas, to play Texas State at Bobcat Tennis Complex.

UTSA is 4-2 on the year and has played very familiar foes of the purple and white. Last week, the Roadrunners beat both Sam Houston and Lamar, and the week prior, they knocked off New Mexico State and UTEP. They started with two losses, a shutout at TCU, and a 4-3 defeat at Abilene Christian.

Tarleton has won consecutive matches after a near impossible season-opening day in which they lost to No. 4 Oklahoma and Missouri. This past match, a Tarleton come-from-behind victory at Oral Roberts, the Texans won four of the final five singles matches to come away with the 4-3 win. Martha Makantasi won her second straight WAC Singles Player of the Week award because of her top flight victory, while the duo of Ximena Morales and Laure Razet won WAC Doubles Team of the Week after improving to 2-0 at the No. 3 position.

For the Roadrunners, Aleksandra Zlatarova was named Conference USA Athlete of the Week, UTSA's first weekly accolade in six years. At 4-1 in the top flight in singles, it will likely be reigning conference player of the week against reigning conference player of the week, with Makantasi (2-1) vs. Zlatarova (4-1).

Likely to play No. 2, Emma Persson (2-1), will have her work cut out for her against Alexandra Weir, who sits at 4-2 in the second flight. Elsa Boisson (2-1), the likely No. 3, will probably face Fatima Gutierrez, who is 3-2, while Celia Vaudiau (1-1), Tarleton's likely No. 4, is scheduled to play 4-2 Magda Tuells.

UTSA's lone player without a winning record this early in the season is Eva Beyebach, who is 1-4 at No. 5. Morales (1-2) has played at Court 5 for Tarleton most of the young season. The Roadrunners haven't had a player compete in the No. 6 singles match yet, forfeiting the point each time. Clara Sobius has been Tarleton's No. 6 player in all four matches, going 2-2.

In doubles, UTSA has two undefeated pairs; Zlatarova and Gutierrez are 3-0 at No. 1, and Mukhutdinova and Weir are 2-0 at No. 3. Tarleton's top duo of Makantasi and Boisson is 1-1.

For the Bobcats out of the Sunbelt Conference, they're 1-2 this year with consecutive losses against Houston and Incarnate Word. They opened the year with a 4-3 win at Sam Houston. Kiana Graham has played all year at No. 1, while Andrea Pineda has the best record of 2-1 at No. 5.

Both matches will have live stats to follow the action. The Tarleton-UTSA live scoring can be found here, while the Tarleton-Texas State live scoring can be found here.
