STEPHENVILLE, Texas
– Tarleton State closes its three-match homestand against Nicholls on Friday night before its first road trip of the season at Houston on Sunday morning. For the first time in program history, the Texans will be taking on a Power 5 school in a regular season contest.
Friday night's match will be streamed on ESPN+. Live stats will be provided by StatBroadcast and can be found at TarletonSports.com. Kyle Crews will be on the call. Sunday morning's contest will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. The first 100 fans to Friday's contest will receive a free purple vuvuzuela to show their Texan support during the game.
After an impressive first week of the season, sophomore goalkeeper
Mikayla Kendall was named the WAC Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week. She recorded her first win and shutout, while notching 14 saves and posting a .5 GAA in two starts for the Texans.
The Texans opened the season with a win and a draw at home. Last Thursday night,
Avery Harr notched the first goal of the season in the 25th minute against ULM. However, the Warhawks scored in the 89th minute resulting in a 1-1 draw. On Sunday, the Texans took full control against Texas A&M - Commerce. For the second consecutive game, the Texans scored in the 25th minute and added a second half goal to take a 2-0 victory.
Harr has been on fire to start the season. The sophomore forward has fired a team-leading eight shots, with all of them on goal. She is just seven away from her single season program record 15 shots on goal last season. She is the only Texan this season with multiple shots on goal.
Mila Bettinelli became the first player in program history to earn postseason WAC honors with her selection to the All-WAC Freshman Team in 2022.

Macie Witter, Harr,
Adriana Alonso-Gomez,
Rylee Low, and
Sydney Rouillard.
The Nicholls Colonels have started the season 0-2. In the season opener against South Alabama, the Colonels were unable to push the needle. After surrendering a pair of goals in the first half, Nicholls was unable to recover dropping to the Jaguars, 5-0. Nicholls dropped to FIU on Sunday, 7-0 giving up four goals in the first half and three in the second frame.
Koryn Barrett leads the Colonels with two shots and one on goal. In goal, Elizabeth Zepeda has played in both games while starting one. She has registered 13 saves and holds a 5.33 GAA.
The two programs met last year, with the Texans victorious 1-0 in Thibodeaux, Louisiana. Low netted the lone goal of the match in Tarleton's first win in program history.
Head coach Rob Poedyn is in his third season with the Colonels. He has posted 155 total wins in his career, with two of those coming at Nicholls. He returns five of his starters from last season.
The Houston Cougars enter the weekend 1-0-1 and will take on Stephen F. Austin on Thursday night before the Texans on Sunday.
The Cougars opened the season with a 0-0 stalemate at Washington. Olivia Dietrich recorded four saves. The Cougars earned their first win of the year against Southeastern Louisiana in their home opener the next day, 5-2. Nadia Kamassah notched a pair of goals and Juliet Moore added two assists in the win.
Houston is entering its first season as a member of the BIG 12. Sunday will be the first match between the Texans and the Cougars in both programs' history.
Head coach Jaime Frias enters his second season at the helm of the Cougar program. In Frias' first season as head coach at Houston, the Cougars finished 6-7-3. He guided Emma Clarke with a AAC Second-Team selection while Alex Whitcraft made the AAC All-Freshman Team.
Tarleton State will be back in action next week with a Friday morning match against Grambling State at 11 a.m. The Texans will then host Lamar on Sunday to complete the weekend.
