STEPHENVILLLE, Texas — After spending the last three seasons playing for head coach Billy Gillispie at Tarleton State,
Shakur Daniel has signed his first professional contract with AD Feniks 2010 of the Macedonian Superleague.
In his three seasons in Stephenville, Daniel averaged 6.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. In 2022, Daniel started in all 33 games he played and averaged 7.8 points per contest. He posted at least 10 points in 14 games scoring a season-high 15 at UTRGV. The Toronto, Canada, native, led the Texans and the WAC playing an average of 35.7 minutes per game. He ranked 10
th in the league in steals and 15th in assists during his final season as a Texan. He was named to the Academic All-WAC Team.
As a junior in the 2020-21 season, Daniel was named honorable mention All-WAC. He averaged 7.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He ranked second on the team in minutes played, assists and steals. He posted double-digit scoring figures in six games. Daniel was known for his elite ball-handling notching 13 games with one or less turnovers.
Daniel started his collegiate career at Southern Miss before transferring to play his sophomore season at Ranger College under coach Gillispie. At Ranger, Daniel was named conference defensive player of the year and earned all-conference honors.
AD Feniks 2010 competes in the Macedonian Superleague. Denis Dervisevic is in his third season as the head coach of the squad. In the 2022-23 season, Feniks 2010 finished 12-13. The Feniks 2010 dropped in the league quarterfinals to Pelister in a best-of-three series. The 12-team league features a 22-game regular season schedule and then an eight team playoff bracket. MZT Skopt won the league title last season finishing the regular season 20-2 and touting a perfect 7-0 record in the playoffs.
Daniel becomes the second Tarleton State Texan graduate to sign a professional basketball contract in the Division I area of the program. Montre Gipson signed in the G-League a year afteer graduating from Tarleton in 2021.
