WEEK AT A GLANCE: Texan Football opens 2023 home slate with ‘Purple Out’ Saturday

After a 52-34 season opening victory, Texan Football returns to Memorial Stadium for the Texans' home opener, and United Athletic Conference opener, against North Alabama on Saturday at 6 p.m. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a limited-edition Tarleton State purple shirt in order to "Purple Out" the entire stadium.
 
Texan Soccer hosts a Friday night contest against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 7 p.m. at the Tarleton Soccer Complex, where admission is always free.
 
In a busy week at Tarleton State to start September, five Texan programs are in action with a pair making their 2023 season debut. Tarleton Men's and Women's Golf will open their respective seasons away from Stephenville this week. Volleyball embarks on their third tournament of the year at the Blazer Classic in Birmingham, Alabama, hosted by UAB. Women's Soccer will finish their weekend in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, in a 1 p.m. contest.
 
TARLETON STATE FOOTBALL opens their 2023 home and conference slate on Saturday at 6 p.m. against North Alabama. The contest pitting the pair of United Athletic Conference members will be the first UAC conference game in UAC history with its inception in 2023. The Texans opened the season last Saturday in Louisiana at McNeese with a 52-34 win. New Texan QB Victor Gabalis threw for 344 yards and three touchdowns, and new Texan RB Kayvon Britten scored three touchdowns. Tarleton's 52 points are the most points the Texans have scored in their season opener in 21 years. Tarleton State has won five of its last six home openers including its last two as a Division I program. Friday will be the fourth meeting against North Alabama, in which the Texans lead the series, 2-1. In an effort to "Purple Out" Memorial Stadium, the first 1,000 fans to enter the gates will receive a Purple Out T-shirt in an annual Tarleton State tradition.
 
TEXAN SOCCER rounds out their second three-match homestand to start the season with a 7 p.m. contest Friday hosting the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders at the Tarleton Soccer Complex, where admission is free for all in attendance. The Texans will then travel to Arkansas-Pine Bluff for a 1 p.m. Sunday date at Pumpherey Soccer Complex. The Texans drew 2-2 against Grambling State on Friday before a 3-0 defeat by Lamar on Sunday. Sophomore goalkeeper Mikayla Kendall tallied 14 saves across the pair of matches.
 
TEXAN VOLLEYBALL enjoyed a successful weekend in San Antonio this past Friday and Saturday at the Roadrunner Classic. Tarleton State brought home a pair of wins including a 3-0 sweep of Lamar and a 3-2 thriller against UTSA. The squad will head to Birmingham, Alabama, at the tail-end of the week for a trio of matches in the Blazer Classic, hosted by UAB. The Texans open on Friday morning against Texas A&M-Commerce at 11 a.m. before playing in the nightcap against the host UAB Blazers at 7 p.m. Tarleton State will finish the weekend with an 11 a.m. Saturda match against Alabama.
 
TEXAN MEN'S GOLF begins their 2023 slate in Fort Collins, Colorado, at the Ram Masters Invitational on Wednesday hosted by Colorado State. The two-day invitational will be held at Fort Collins Country Club. Head coach Chance Cain enters his second season at the helm of the program in Tarleton's second year of competition since a nearly 30-year hiatus. Max Bentgsson and Cristobal Sepulveda return for their second year in the program after the duo each turned in a pair of top-10 performances last season.
 
TEXAN WOMEN'S GOLF opens their 2023 campaign with a three-day tournament starting on Sunday, Sept. 10, at the Timpanogos Collegiate Invitational hosted by Utah Valley. The three-day event will be held at Timpanogos Country Club in Orem, Utah. Last season, the Texans also opened the season in Utah, the Hobble Creek Classic, also hosted by Utah Valley. The squad returns all seven members from last season and adds sophomore transfer Lou Deltombe, a native of La Chapelle Sue Edre, France.

TICKETS are available for all of the upcoming home events online at TarletonSports.com/tickets. The ticket office is open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. Admission to all Tarleton State Women's Soccer games are free to all fans. Student tickets are available for free to Tarleton students from any campus with a valid university ID number but must be ordered in advance at TarletonSports.com/tickets.
 
TARLETON SPORTS RADIO SHOWS features Texan Volleyball head coach Mary Schindler and Texan Football head coach Todd Whitten weekly through November. The next Mary Schindler Show, presented by F&M Bank, will take place on Monday, September 11 due to the holiday weekend. The Mary Schindler Show resumes every Monday starting next week at the Barry B. Thompson Student Center on Tarleton State's Campus from 12-12:30 p.m. The Todd Whitten Show, presented by Triple Crown Ford, will be hosted every Thursday in the lobby of Triple Crown Ford, located at 2975 W. Washington St. in Stephenville from 12-12:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided to those in attendance to all Todd Whitten Shows. Both shows will air on the flagship of Tarleton Athletics, KTRL 90.5 FM in Stephenville, Texas, and worldwide at TarletonSports.com/Watch.
