STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Track and Field first-year head coach Bobby Carter announced his 2024-25 men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field schedule.
The indoor schedule consists of six regular season events, with two in Texas, three in Kansas and one in New Mexico. The outdoor schedule will keep the Texans in their home state for the entirety of the regular season and the first two postseason races.
"I am excited about this year's schedule," said coach Carter after the completion of his first schedule at the helm of the program. "This season promises new challenges and opportunities for our athletes to showcase their talent and determination. The most important thing for us is going where the competition is. We will always put our student athletes in the best positions possible. I truly believe we will see some exciting things this season!"
The Texans will kick off the indoor season in Pittsburg, Kan. for the third-straight season. The squad will compete in two separate meets competing in the two-day Boo Rogers on Dec. 6-7 and the Crimson & Gold Invitational on Dec. 7. Last year,
Angel Gomez broke the program 5000 meter run indoor record at the event.
Tarleton will then have over a month break before competing in back-to-back events in Lubbock, Tex. The squad will compete for the fourth time in the past six season at the Corky Classic on Jan. 17-18. Two weeks later, the squad will return to the Stan Scott Invite from Jan. 30 – Feb. 1 for the third consecutive season.
The Purple and White will conclude the indoor regular season in February at the Steve Miller Invitational hosted by Kansas State on Feb. 7 and the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mex. on Feb. 14-15. The Texans competed in New Mexico last season, but 2025 will mark its first trip to Kansas State.
The Texans will travel to Spokane, Wash. for the 2025 WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. For the first time as a program, the Texans will be eligible to earn spots at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Virginia Beach on March 14-15.
After six regular season meets and a pair of potential postseason events, the Texans will open the outdoor season on March 22. Travel will be light for the Texans with their first eight meets of the outdoor slate in the state of Texas.
Tarleton will open the outdoor season in Waco, Tex. at the Clyde Hart Invitational hosted by Baylor. Then, the squad will head to the Texas Relays, a staple on the Texan schedule. Tarleton has run at the Texas Relays in each of the last four years since joining Division I. Competing for the third-straight weekend, the Texans will head to the Mean Green Invitational hosted by North Texas on April 5-6.
At the midpoint of the outdoor season, the Texans will compete at another staple in their schedule the Michael Johnson Invitational. The annual event hosted by Baylor will take place April 18-19. Next, for the second-consecutive year and third in the last five seasons, the Texans will host the Joe Gillespie Invitational. The Texans will close out the regular season to start off the month of May at the Corky Shootout hosted by Texas Tech.
Tarleton competing in its first season NCAA Championship eligible, will then head into the postseason. First, the Purple and White will travel to Arlington, Tex. for the 2025 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Next, the Texans hope to send the qualifying team or individuals to the NCAA West First Rounds in Bryan-College Station, Tex. on May 28-31.
