Jacob Thomas broke his own school record in the pole vault

HOUSTON — The Tarleton State Track and Field set a new school record and four new top 10 program bests in their penultimate meet of the regular season in Houston at the Robert Platt Invitational.

The South Central Region seventh-ranked Texans sent a small group to Houston, with pole vault and pentathlon on Friday and distance runners on Saturday. On Friday, Jacob Thomas broke his own school record in the pole vault and earned a top three finish. On Saturday, Kaitlyn Gale led the distance runners with the second fastest 3000 meter run in program history.

"There were some good performances from this weekend," said head coach Bobby Carter. "As always, setting school records and personal records show the continued direction this program is headed, but the job is not finished. With four weeks until the conference championships, the goal is still the same. I'm excited for what's to come as we prepare for the postseason."

Friday
Jacob Thomas broke his own school record for the second time this season in the men's pole vault. Thomas placed second overall clearing the 5.06-meter bar for the first time in his career. He broke his previous record of 5.03 meters set at his last meet in Texas Tech two weeks ago. Texan newcomer Rhett Williams quickly made his mark on the program posting the fourth best vault in program history of 4.61 meters.

Malak Rashwan was just two points shy of tying her school record in the pentathlon scoring 3,551 total points. Rashwan started with her best event, the 60-meter hurdles. She tallied the 1000 points maximum with the fastest time of 8.58 seconds. She posted the second-best shot put in the competition with a 11.33-meter toss. She placed fourth in the long jump with a 5.46-meter jump.

Saturday

Geron White kicked off the day in the men's high jump. White set his new collegiate best with a 2.10-meter clearance. His new best ranks third overall in program history. White placed third overall.

In the women's 3000, a pair of Texans posted new top 10 performance bests. Kaitlyn Gale improved her second-best time in program history by 10 seconds crossing in 9:57.37. Gale finished fifth overall in the race. Victoria Guerrero posted the ninth fastest time in school history clocking in at 10:40.13.

Tarleton State will have a week off before their final regular season weekend of the indoor slate. On Feb. 13-14, the Texans will head to Texas Tech for the Jarvis Scott Invite as well as to Arkansas for the Tyson Invitational. The Tyson Invitational is hosted at the Randal Tyson Track Center, the home of the 2026 NCAA Indoor National Championships, March 13-14.
