WEEK AT A GLANCE: Texan Football returns to Stephenville to host Homecoming week’s grand finale

In the midst of every other incredible Tarleton State Homecoming tradition that will take place this week, Football and Volleyball look to add to that excitement.

TEXAN FOOTBALL stunned the crowd in Cedar City, Utah, taking the win from Southern Utah 38-37 in overtime, thanks to a missed extra point by the Thunderbirds after their first score of the extra period. The Texans started out hot, leading 28-7 at half, but lost the lead with just over three minutes left in the fourth quarter. A fast 60-yard drive allowed Adrian Guzman to tie it up before going to extra possessions. Per usual, Kayvon Britten dominated the ground game, rushing for 191 yards and three scores. Britten surpassed one thousand rushing yards Saturday, becoming one of three players in FCS history, and the first in 25 years, to reach that mark in six games or less. Victor Gabalis led the airstrike, passing for 285 yards and a touchdown through the air and with his legs. The Texans host Utah Tech at 6 p.m. this Saturday to cap off Homecoming week. There will be free Homecoming t-shirts for the first one thousand fans to enter Memorial Stadium, on top of a pregame concert featuring Bart Crow in Texan Alley and a special surprise waiting for fans postgame. The Texans have another bye week following this game before heading to Clarksville, Tennessee, to face Austin Peay Oct. 26.

TARLETON STATE WOMEN'S GOLF hosts their lone event of the season with the 2024 Texan Match Play at Squaw Valley Golf Course in Glen Rose. The Texans walked away as champions of this event last year, defeating Texas Southern and Stephen F. Austin in a Ryder Cup style of play. This match takes place on Monday. The Texans have a break before their next competition, which will be Oct. 20-22 in Boulder City, Nevada, in The Clash at Boulder Creek.

TARLETON STATE VOLLEYBALL hosts Abilene Christian at 6 p.m. on Thursday for a Purple People Bleeders night. As Texans, we all know we Bleed Purple, and we want to prove that we represent purple better than the rival with this purple out. The team remains in Stephenville to host Utah Valley on Saturday at 1 p.m. In honor of football hosting their Homecoming matchup the same evening, there will be free Homecoming Texan Volleyball koozies given away to early arriving fans. Their next game will be on the road at California Baptist Oct. 17.

TARLETON STATE SOCCER had a strong showing on the road last week, handing California Baptist their first regular season WAC loss since 2022. The Texans are the first non-nationally ranked opponent to defeat the Lancers in Riverside since early last season. The Texans came away with the 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Sam Liaty and Victoria Cameron, who netter the game-winning goal in the final seven minutes. They remain on the road this week, traveling to Seattle U on Saturday for a game time set for 3 p.m. This will be their final road contest of the regular season before closing out with three-straight home games, starting with Utah Tech on Oct. 17 for Military Appreciation Night, with free Corps of Cadets soccer scarves given away to early arriving fans.

TEXAN TENNIS was recognized for an impressive accomplishment from Adeliya Mukhutdinova, as she was named Western Athletic Conference Singles Player of the Month for September. She finished September with an 8-1 singles record and has not lost since Sept. 7. The Texans have a busy week ahead, competing in the ITA Texas Regional Championships in Fort Worth Thursday through Sunday. That's just for this week, as the competition does not end until Monday of next week. This will be the second-to-last competition of the fall season, as they will conclude Oct. 25-27 at the WAC Fall Tennis Invitational.

TEXAN MEN'S GOLF finished in 11th place at the Mark Simpson Invitational this past week. Beginning on Monday, the Texans will compete at the Oregon State Invitational in Corvallis, Oregon. The invitational will wrap up on Tuesday. The Texans have a slight break following this, as their next competition will be Oct. 25-26 in Mexico at the Monterrey Collegiate Classic.
