Tarleton State Women’s Basketball hosts first Education Day at Wisdom Gym Tuesday

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State women's basketball will host its first Education Day in its home opener at Wisdom Gym Tuesday at 11 a.m. against New Orleans. 

This will be one of two Education Day games Tarleton State will host this season, inviting young students from Erath County to enjoy an educational and fun-filled experience. Tickets start at just $10 and can be purchased online here or by visiting the Tarleton State Athletics Box Office at Memorial Stadium. 

Tuesday's game will be available to watch on ESPN+ and fans can listen to Clayton Neville's radio call on Tarleton Sports Network. Neville will have a 30-minute pregame show starting at 10:30 a.m. and a 30-minute postgame show following the game. 

MATCHUP NOTES
  • Tarleton State will play New Orleans for the second time in program history and the first time in Stephenville. 
  • New Orleans beat the Texans 67-59 last year in Louisiana. 
  • Tarleton State will play in the first of its two Education Day games at Wisdom Gym in 2024. The Texans have four Education Games on its schedule (2 Home, 2 Away) and have a record of 0-1 in Education Day games in 2024 (Nov. 4 at UTEP, 49-52).
LAST TIME OUT
  • Tarleton State Women's Basketball fell at Arizona 62-39 at the McKale Center on Thursday night.
  • Arizona won the first all-time meeting between Tarleton State and Arizona in women's basketball on Thursday.
  • Arizona is one of four 2024 NCAA Tournament teams Tarleton State will face this season (Texas, Nebraska, California Baptist). 
  • Senior guard Arieona Rosborough scored a season-high 21 points and grabbed a season-high nine rebounds, shooting 66.7 percent from the floor. 
  • Junior guard Karyn Sanford matched a career-best three 3-pointers made on Thursday en route to nine points. 
  • Freshmen Mar'Cyah Willis and Grace Booth made their Texan debuts on Thursday.
PEAK PERFORMER
  • Tarleton State signed former Mary Hardin-  Baylor star Arieona Rosborough this past season. 
  • In just her second game, Rosborough scored a season-high 21 points at Arizona (11/7), the second 20-point performance against a Power 4 conference opponent in program history
  • She earned a plethora of honors at UMHB, including three times being named ASC All-Conference First Team, ASC Player of the Year, and ASC Defensive Player of the Year. 
  • She was twice named to ASC All-Conference Defensive Team, ASC Freshman of the Year, Dave Campbell's Texas Basketball Non-DI All-Texas Defensive Player of the Year, WBCA All-America Honorable Mention, and D3hoops.com First Team All-Region. 
  • She played 80 career games (74 starts) for the Cru, averaging 15.1 points and eclipsing the 1,000-point mark by scoring 1,210 career points.  
FAREWELL TO WISDOM
  • The 2024-25 will mark the final basketball season played at the historic, 3,000-seat Wisdom Gym. 
  • Built in 1970 for a cost of $1.3 million, Wisdom Gym has been the home of Tarleton State Basketball for over 50 years. Over that time, the gym has become home to All-Americans, ALL-WAC selections, Conference Champions, Conference Tournament Champions, College Insider.com Tournament games, NCAA Regional Tournaments, and NCAA Sweet 16 games. The gym has also been the home of the winningest basketball coach in school history since 1988.
  • Also housing the women's volleyball gym, indoor turf training facility, weight room, athletic training facility, athletics coaching offices, Hall of Fame, trophy cases housing years of Tarleton's athletic kinesiology department.
