Tarleton State Women’s Basketball adds four players in Fall Signing Period

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Women's Basketball and head coach Bill Brock have announced the signing of four student-athletes during the Fall Signing Period for the 2025-26 season.

The Texans added four guards with the signings of Nyah Buntun (Stockton, California), Kristian Hieskill (Cibolo, Texas), Jaylynn Perez-Richard (Houston) and Alexis Rynders (Glen Rose, Texas).

"In our recruiting for the class of 2025, we wanted to address our athleticism and size on the perimeter while recruiting from outstanding high school and AAU programs," Brock said. "I believe this class has fulfilled both of these requirements. Each player fits our Texan Culture as we continue to build a program at Tarleton that represents our school in a positive manner on and off the court."

Nyah Buntun - 5-4, Point Guard, Stockton, California (Saint Mary's HS)
Buntun will be the first Tarleton State Women's Basketball player from California in the Brock Era. The Stockton, California, native was ranked as the No. 2 point guard in California and ranked No. 6 overall in the state by Prep Girls Hoops.

Serving as a captain for Saint Mary's High School girls' basketball team, Buntun led her squad to a 26-6 last season. Earning Marin Catholic All-Tournament Team honors in 2023, Buntun was instrumental in the Rams' postseason run. Buntun helped Saint Mary's High School to four victories in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs last season, with the Rams knocking off the No. 1 seed Folsom High School in the championship to clinch the section title.

"Nyah is an explosive play-making guard that will make us tougher when we get her in purple," Brock said. "She is the type of point guard you want on both ends of the floor. She is a dominant defender and a point guard who understands how to run the show. Coming from the historic Saint Mary's High School in Stockton, California, Nyah knows what it takes to win. We are excited to have her."

Kristian Hieskill - 5-10, Guard, Cibolo, Texas (Byron P. Steele HS)
Hieskill is a team captain for Byron P. Steele High School that averages 19 points per game and five rebounds per game. The 5-foot-10-inch guard is an All-District player and earned Defensive Player of the Year honors.

As a multi-sport athlete, Hieskill also competes in the high jump on Byron P. Steele's track and field team. She also competed for SA Finest, an AAU program that has produced multiple collegiate All-Americans and WNBA draft picks.

"Kristian is a versatile guard who has had high level playing experience playing both inside and on the perimeter," Brock said. "Kris is a proven winner whose toughness, physicality and ability to shoot the ball will help us tremendously. Kris comes from two well-coached programs: Byron Steele High School and the SA Finest AAU program. Through these programs, she has played against some of the best athletes in the country."

Jaylynn Perez-Richard - 5-11, Guard, Houston, Texas (Pearland Dawson HS)
Ranked 11th in the class of 2025, Perez-Richard already has collected a number of honors during her high school career. In addition to earning First Team All-District honors, Perez-Richard garnered Newcomer of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year honors at Pearland Dawson High School.

Perez-Richard has also played in a pair of all-star games, including the Gatorade All-Star Game (PTB) and the Jr. All-Star Game. She has played AAU basketball for the Texas Flames for the last three years and is a member of the A/B Honor Roll at Pearland Dawson High School.

"Jaylynn will add size and the ability to score the ball from all three levels on the floor," Brock said. "Jay is a hooper who loves to work at the game; and because of this she will help us grow our blue-collar culture. She is truly a young lady who has earned the right to be at this level through her consistent work ethic and the commitments she has made to the game of basketball."

Alexis Rynders - 5-11, Guard, Glen Rose, Texas (Glen Rose HS)
Starring at nearby Glen Rose High School in Glen Rose, Texas, Rynders will reunite with former high school teammate and current Texan Grace Booth. Having 1,000 career points entering her senior season, Rynders currently has the Glen Rose school record for 3-point percentage in a game, single season made 3-pointers, single season assists and single season free throw percentage.

In addition to being a three-time TABC All-Region player, Rynders has also been named TGCA All-State three times in her high school career. Rynders has played a key role in Glen Rose winning district three times and clinching the regional title in 2023. She was named the 2023 Region 1 Tournament MVP and helped Glen Rose to a state semifinals appearance shortly after.

"We are so excited to add Alexis to our Texan family," Brock said. "We have followed and recruited Alexis for quite some time during her stellar career at Glen Rose High School. She has great size for a guard and her exceptional ability to score the ball from the perimeter will make an immediate impact on our team. In addition to her talents on the court, she has tremendous character and is an excellent student. We can't wait to get her in purple."

Tarleton State starts its second road trip of the season on Wednesday, going to Austin to face No. 4 nationally-ranked Texas at 11 a.m.
