STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Both of Tarleton's golf programs had a solid month across four different tournaments, and Tarleton Athletics has honored a member from each of the Texan men's and women's programs, naming Alvaro Huidobro and Sofia Roridguez the recipients of The Grove Student-Athletes of the Month for March.
 
The student-athlete of the month is selected based on the all-around student-athlete for one male and one female. The student-athlete shows effort and excellence in academics, leadership, civility, dedication to the team, campus involvement, community service, and the ability to serve as role models for current and future Tarleton State University students and student-athletes.
 
To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or better. Only athletes competing in their championship season are eligible for the award each month.
 
Texan Men's Golf shined across both of their tournaments in March, finishing third as a team at The Big Texan on March 25-26 after a sixth place effort at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational on March 4-5. The Texans shot -9 (855) to start the month, followed by a +2 combined score (866) in Kerrville, Texas. Huidobro was a huge part of both team efforts, finishing in the top-five in each tournament as an individual. At The Big Texan, Huidobro turned in a silver place finishing by shooting -7 (70-67-72). At the Colin Montgomerie Invitational, he placed tied-fifth at -8 (70-70-68). He combined to shoot -15, with an average round score of 68.8.
 
As for Tarleton Women's Golf, the Texans finished eighth in both events, with the latter event featuring 17 teams. At the HCU Husky Invitational in Sugarland, Texas, on March 11-12, Rodriguez placed tied-15th in the 68-woman field, shooting +14 (82-82-76). Then, at the Bama Beach Bash on March 17-19, she finished tied-22nd at +6 (73-77) in a 100-woman field. Her +1 card in the first round was her tied-best of the season.
 
Once selected as a student-athlete of the month, the recipients are eligible to be selected for Tarleton Student-Athlete of the Year award at the end of the season.
